As long as you can put your head on your pillow at night you posted the correct score, who gives a crap what someone else does?

Because it costs me money. Part of my tournament entry fees go towards the prizes. If someone cheats and wins the prizes, that's not significantly different than if he took the money out of my pocket.

And the fact that an adult would "report" someone in an outing is very childish and I would be more embarassed for the one doing the reporting. I have twin 3 year olds that know not to tattle-tale on someone.

Do you object to police reports too? I don't mean for violent crimes. If the neighbors are playing their music too loud at 1AM, and won't turn it down, is it wrong for me to call the police and file a noise report? Or should I let it go, and just worry about my own volume?

I wouldn't play against someone for money if I didn't know them. And if I caught them cheating in a money game - that would be the last time I played with them and if they were a friend, they'd be a former friend.

I would be upfront with the guy cheating. I would not go running into the clubhouse like some Yenta blabbing about it and "reporting" someone - especially in a charity-type outing where there are dopey prizes to be won (new driver, new putter, new irons etc).

Do what you have to do. Police reports? Really? Loud music and you're going to get it on paper with the police? Some of you guys are a bunch of candyasses.

Unfortunately people cheat in golf more than all the other sports combined. Just the way it is. Always call them out, that's the most you can do, if they continue to get called out, maybe they stop cheating. or maybe not, cheaters have no integrity.

The main key is not to let cheaters affect your own game..

That's total BS! Are you saying that you would have singed his scorecard? Where is YOUR integrity? By signing that card, you're declaring that the score is accurate making you just as guilty for cheating as he was.

And yes, it's embarrassing to have to report somebody to the official scorer. I've had to do it myself, a few times. You meet a number of these guys in high school varsity matches. Every time that I had to it I always talked to the guy about his scorecard first. In fact, all of us in the group would confront the guy about the scorecard and give him the opportunity to own up to the correct score (I kept track of both numbers). When they won't own up to the correct score though, what am I supposed to do? Sign a falsified scorecard? Hell no! That would get me DQ'd just as quickly. That was the standard method of dealing with cheaters in our high school league. Nobody ever got turned in more than once. It's humiliating, especially on that level.

Golf is a sport that relies on the players to be the umpires and referees in 99.9% of matches played across the world. If you can't abide by that, I think it makes you less of a golfer.

I'd sign his scorecard, look at him in the face and as I handed it to him I'd say, "Here is your card, I know you cheated. That's the last time I hope we have to play together." That's it. High school and college golfers are the biggest group of cheaters on the planet - and the douchiest. They spend more time trying to catch a playing partner cheating, or trying to hide their own cheating, than concentrating on their game.

This. A person who signs a scorecard he knows to be inaccurate is every bit as much of a cheater as the person who hit the foot wedge, took mulligans, 20-foot gimmes, or whatever.

Who the hell cares? I don't get why the vast majority of golfers out here let crap like this ruin their day. Who gives a crap if the guy posts a 63 but shot a 109?

You're kidding, right? The guy is playing in a tournament with prizes that obviously have a cash value and he's a dick for reporting someone who cheats?

I'm not for rat squealing people myself, but reporting a cheater is hardly that. A thief is a thief even if it is for, as you say, dopey prizes.

If I asked them and they refused what should I do. Just suffer or should I be a real man and go attempt to beat the crap out of them, risking injury and or jail time for both of us.

Sometimes people need to be told what proper behavior is. I have no problem playing golf with people that play by a different set of rules but when you enter a tournament you have to abide by the rules, it doesn't mater if you are playing for $10,000 or a Mickey Mouse hat.

Hey soup, it's not called being a tattle tale, it's called doing what's right, but you wouldn't know what that is since you're always looking out for A#1, you. You're supposed to look out for others more than you do yourself, but you don't seem to comprehend that.

Here's comparing apples and apples soup. Someone runs up to your wife, if you have one, and shoots her point blank. They run off, and say they never did it. And remember, you cant do anything about it, because they have to live with it, not you. So don't go tattle-taling to the police that a man 6'0" 200 lbs. with blue eyes and a red shirt shot your wife.

That's your comparison to someone trying to scrape 3 shots off their score? My wife going down in a homicide? Classy.
