What is everyones opinion of the R7 irons. I'm looking to replace my 8+ year old irons in the next week or so. I don't have a ton of money to spend ($500) and the R7s have caught my eye.

I hit them vs the Callaway X18s at a local Dicks. It was indoors so I couldn't see the ball flight. I did prefer the feel of the R7s as well as the appearance at address.

I just started playing again after a 6 year hiatus from the game. I've been out twice and scored a 76 and 86 at a local course. I'm hitting my irons well except for the occasional slice and fat shot. I think that's just inconsistency in my swing from being away from the game so long. I want an iron that will help me get back to my previous 8 handicap and improve beyond that point.

I really need them fitted, so I am going to take them to a local fitter and have them adjusted, especially length. I'm 6'3 and have been playing standard length irons my whole life. I am fitting my swing to my clubs and not the other way around.

I've never played them, but I hit them many, many times indoors when I was looking for a new set of irons. I finally settled on the Cally X-22s, but there are times I think I might have liked the R7s better.

They came in a very close second to the X-22s mainly because I liked the weight of the Cally a bit better - it's a touch heavier and it was easier for me to tell where the club head was throughout my swing. I was hitting them about the same.

Out of the X-18 and the R7s, if you liked the feel and the look of the R7s better, I say go for them. I don't think you could go wrong with them for a set of irons for a very good price.

ive hit them and the x-22's and liked the r7's better, the irons i have are very similar to r7's thats why i picked them. They look and feel just like them but arent clones just very similar in design, they're a very reputable company in their own right and they cost a lot less. Im very happy with them and hit the ball a lot more consistently than my old walmart irons I was using before. Either the r7's or the x-18's would be a great choice to improve your game as both are meant to do that. You wont go wrong with either the x-18's or r7's.

I bought a set, played them, hated them, got rid of them, and love my Ping I 10`s! But, I had the standard R 7`s,should`ve bought the TP R 7`s. Probably would have been better for me.

I bought a set of R7's about 3 months ago and love them. They have a great feel and are very forgiving. Misshits are hardly misshits, distance is still about the same. Although I admit this is my first real set of Irons, up untill now I have been playing a cheap complete set, so for me there was a huge difference.

I got a set of used TP's at the beginning of the year and I love them. I'm pretty new to the game and they're the first pro set I've had so I've no way of comparing them against say Ping or Callaway.

I personally like the feeling of all Taylormade clubs. Callaway to me feels dull. Try it out several times, but either way they are both good clubs.

That's one of the reasons I didn't like the X-18s. A good hit felt and sounded the same as a bad hit. With the R7s there was a nice *thwack* with good hits and a different sound if I was a little off.

Love my R7's. Long and forgiving with great feel. Ball flight is high but thats mostly a good thing. Many good clubs out there and I'd say go with what you like. My next set will likely be Pings because they do hold their value much better.

I have hit the R7's on the course and personallly I thought it was not as good as I was hoping for it to be. The irons felt really light and I had trouble from keeping the ball from going left on the long irons. The trajectory was mid-high and the feel was good for a cast. They weren't bad by any standard but they didn't really live up to the hype. I think they are not much better than the rac OS2 that I'm playing right now.

I tried the r7's, Mizuno mp52's, Callaway x-22's, and the Ap2's. The r7's weren't my first choice hitting in the store but once I played them on the course, I knew these were the best for my game. Even so, the mp 52's were unbelievable...

I play R7 paid 700. Was in the 90's for 20 years
now shot 74 this summer. Handicap 5.6 thanks to
these great irons. swing speed 111 Regular shaft
Changed my whole perspective on the game.
I practice a lot and play 3 rounds week.
The trajectory is high and long. Very Forgiving.
Quality clubs and will lower your handicap.

I spent a few hours hitting many clubs last night, ended up getting a set for under $400. They felt the best to me and all the reviews are positive.

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
    • Day 128 12-18 Worked on rotation and getting to lead side. Still working on the flow feeling while doing that. Recorded swings.
    • IMO-the only thing entertaining was the relay race. Everything else was excruciatingly boring...or just  stupid, like the 14-club thing. Watching guys blade wedges into the water over and over is not at all interesting.
