Just got my swing analyzed by a teacher that works at golf tech(This was at the lpga tourney this weekend). he had me infront of a couple cameras and i hit some balls. then he asked me what i usually shoot, i said low 50's, then he said wow if you wouldnt have told me that i would of thought you shoot in the high 30's, and he said my "X-Factor" is 50 when most tour players is 41. he then said my swing was one of the best he's seen today out of about 250 people. I was pretty excited! lol Do you guys think he was just trying to make me feel good or was he serious?

last time I got a lesson the guy asked me what I shot and I said around 80 or so. He said I would have thought you shot close to even par or better. I felt a lot better about my swing but felt immediately much worse about my short game. lol

How do you calculate the X-factor?

Doesn't matter how good it looks, it's the score that counts.

Nice. My swing takes practice to time it just right, so I'm guessing my x-factor is like 75 haha

How do you calculate the X-factor?

If I read correctly in some old Golf Digest, the "old-school" X-factor is the angle between your hips and your shoulders on the top of your backswing. An X-factor of 50 means your shoulders are rotated 50° further back than your hips.

Or, according to the "new school" X-factor, it's the angle between your hips and shoulders when you hit the ball. Then an X-factor of 50° means your shoulders are in an angle of 50° to your hips, or, your right hip (if you're a righty) is in front of your right shoulder by some 50°. Has to do with the coil in your body and the power you can unleash. (google "golf" and "x-factor" if you want to read more) G.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
