First off, some bad news for me. Playing a round the other day, my driver head broke off during a normal swing. I don't really know what happened, and needless to say, I was very disappointed. But I have had the driver about 2 years so, I got a lot out of it.

But for my question, since the driver is broke, I was wondering how much I stand to gain by upgrading to new technology. I figure I can reshaft my current driver for about 70-100 dollars, depending on the shaft I choose. I noticed that I can get a Callaway Hyper X tour with NV65 Shaft for $200 right now on tgw.com. My swing speed is ~105, and I get about 280-290 in distance including roll. I guess, putting it differently, am I pretty much maxed out distance wise with my current swing speed?

If you are happy with that driver, than get another shaft. Costs less than a new club. And yes, I'd say 280-290 is max for that speed, you must be making solid contact almost every time to get that kind of distance at that swing speed.

go to the golf store with a launch monitor and check out the new driver and see what give you the best results, if they have your current driver in the use club bin that you can test compare the new club with, all the better.

Unless you can get some significant benefit from a new driver, take mhodar13's tip and go with a reshaft.

I play the HyperX Tour driver, and really like it. But, Titleist makes excellent drivers too.

Focus, connect and follow through!

That is some serious distance for that swing speed.....OMG. I would try to mate up with the same type shaft you had. I don't see how you are going to improve upon these stats.

I ended up getting a new shaft put in it. Unfortunately, they didn't have the Grafalloy Blue shaft, so I ended up getting a Fujikura E360 put in it. The person doing it said they are very similar, and that they Fuji should bring my ballflight down just a touch, which is something I've been looking to do.

I do it the ball consistently on the sweetspot. The 280-290 was not found by stepping off a drive or anything like that. A course I play has a straight-away, flat 430 yard par 4. I normally have between 130 and 160 left for my second shot, depending on wind. Not very scientific, but gets the job done.

you can get the Hyper X Tour WAY cheaper than $200 here

...and for the record, I bought a driver in "very good" condition and it looked as though it had NEVER been hit.

I would consider buying a new one just because it's nice getting new clubs, but only if I hit it as well or better than the old driver. As far as gaining anything... new drivers aren't any longer than 2 yrs ago or anything. And direction/performance are personal, might be better, might not.

EDIT: guess I'm too late

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
