I had a tourney today and i choked big time.... shot 84 and i had 4 sevens . It is a two day tourney and i am 12 behind the lead. This is an easy course(until i came along) and i do see a low score out there. Any advice?

Just have fun.....I did the same thing in a tournament this year. I shot a 82 with 3 double bogeys and one triple. 2 doubles and a triple were on the front 9 shooting a 45. Just went out and had fun not putting any pressure on myself on the back and shot a 37.

Another thing I have been trying to do this year is to just play smart. If your in trouble it is usually better to take the safe route instead of trying to be the hero and make an next to impossible shot creating the doubles and triples if not executed.

Today is done, just have fun tomorow and relax. I would suggest you lighten up your pre round routine - hit only a hanful of balls a few chips and go play

Don't think about your score....don't check the card to see how you are doing.
Lost count of the number of comps I have played in and check my card after 9 to see I'm doing really well and then it all goes pear shaped on the back 9.
And play sensible golf. Don't go for the miracle shot if you are in trouble, play safe. There are more ways than one to par a hole.

I shot a 113 the other day, but had a lot of non golf related junk on my mind. Didn't make it any easier to take though. Clear your head and have fun!!

Sounds like you aren't having fun. Figure out a way to make it enjoyable even if you are hitting lousy shots.

Jeez, my round yesterday sounds much like Pivo's round. Started double, double, double. Each time finding trouble off the tee with my driver. Went to the 3 wood and birdied the 4th. Played smart for a few more holes, had a par and a couple of bogeys and then pulled the driver out on 9 and finished with a triple! Dumb. I should've changed my gameplan knowing that the Driver just wasn't on that day and left it in the bag. Finished with 47.

It was a case of bad decisions leading to more bad decisions (Going the miracle shot from under the fairway bunker lip) which leads to more damage on the scorecard.

On the back 9 I went back to the 3 wood and instantly took all the trouble out of play. Shot 37 with a 3 putt bogey on the 18th. It's amazing how relaxed I became when I wasn't trying to scramble and make up for bad decisions. Good decisions lead to more good decisions.

Take the pressure off yourself by playing smart and having a simple plan and the pars will just add up.

    • Day 23 - Back to full swing work, trying to swing loose and feel the club head.
    • Yet here we are. I don’t disagree that we should expect spectators to behave on any event, not just The Masters, but that’s not the case. There’s a sea of phones out there on any other event and a lot more incidents with spectators. Why shouldn’t we praise decent behaviour when it is often lacking in these days? There are plenty of golf related events to write negative articles about. I like when there is positivity to write about instead. Not that I expect them to behave at any other event like they do at Augusta just because it gets praise, but it’s nice to see positive spin on things. There are more than enough articles about rowdy spectators and cheating players. I think you nailed it in the first line: “grumpy old man”. 😉
    • Day 275: mirror work for a bit while watching TV. Working on cleaning up a few things in my lower body stuff.
    • Yeah, I take your point. Perhaps you've just identified the other side of the same coin: maybe there is very little to celebrate about pro golfers as people, so the golf media are clutching at straws trying to find something.
    • Go ahead and name three things that, in the world of golf, have been more praise-worthy in the last three months. I'll wait. It's not like they got Congressional medals or something.
