Paddy seems pretty cool. Anyone know that for a fact? He seems like the kind of guy that would be fun to be around.

I saw him at the BMW on Sunday. He stopped by the crowds of people around the steps to go into the clubhouse to sign autographs and talk with the people. Seemed like a really nice guy!

I volunteered at the Barclays, marshalling at the practice facility and clubhouse. Harrington stood out to me as the most fan friendly of all the big stars. I was always pretty "eh" about him, but he's launched into my top couple players to root for after that week.

The first day, it must have taken him 30 minutes to make the 200 yard walk from clubhouse to driving range because he signed for every kid and fan along the way, chatting the whole time. Compared to others who were too busy on the phone, or simply blew people off (Els and Couples were surprisingly icy toward the fans) Harrington was fantastic.

He was also one of the few that had a real rock star aura, which shocked me since I didn't think fans would respond to him as they did to Phil and Tiger, but among golf fans, he was very well recognized.

My #1 pro at the moment. I'd like to have a pint or two or ? and pick his golfing brain. That'll never happen though, but it would be nice!

That is great to hear.

I've always enjoyed his game and interviews. He always struck me as someone who really appreciates his success and understands how fragile the game can be.

It is really nice to hear that he is the real deal.

Met him once after he won his first British Open at a charity event in Dublin,he was really cool(even if he is a qualified accountant!!) and had time for everyone, posing for pics and signing autographs, though he didn't have the Claret Jug with him though.
I think he is a teetotaler by the way so going for a pint with him might be out of the question!!

Actually on a more morbid note, his father is buried beside my Girlfriends Aunt who died last christmas

A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks that others throw at him

Teetotaler.....I would never have thought that. Well he could have some tea and I'd have the pint of beer. LOL

While Paddy's not my favorite pro, he's for sure top five and I also would love to sit and have a drink with him.

Yes, Paddy seems like a decent guy and also pretty bright. He's got the old Irish blarney going as well, tu' be shuuuur .

A few months ago there was a segment on the golf channel in which he played a few holes at a course in Ireland (cool and damp IIRC - typical) with a female golfer who also played (forget who she was - a commentator I think with a respectable golf game). Anyway it was very interesting to hear him talk about his decision-making and general thinking out there on that course, taking into account the weather, course conditions etc etc. It was stream-of-consciousness stuff, fascinating to hear. He really handled the situation very well, including her questions - what a charmer!

I get the feeling that if I played a few rounds with him while he talked constantly about what he was thinking (about his situation and my own on the course), I'd learn a heck of a lot and be a better player in short order. Naturally I'd buy him a Guiness afterwards. Since he's a teetotaller (as we now know) I'd have to drink his pint as well.

I'm partially Irish myself so I'm biased ...........

Just heard something really cool about Paddy that I wasnt aware of. After his excellent year last year, his contract with Wilson was up. As you can imagine, he had tons of very lucrative offers by other OEMs. He ended up staying loyal to what got him there, and accepted a new contract with Wilson, worth a lot less money. I think that says a lot about the kind of person he is, and shows he's a good guy, as I cant imagine how much some of those contracts that he turned down were worth.

Wow that's really interesting. I think he's the kind of guy who just uses what he likes and since he likes wilson clubs he stayed with him.

I like Paddy- I wish he would stop fiddling with his swing though! Ive got him down to win a major next year (The Open), Phil the other two (The Masters n US Open), and Ross Fisher (USPGA) the other.

I have heard Padraig say that he doesn't like beer which in his words makes him an "Irish homosexual".
