If I have a X Flex shaft in my driver, should I also have it in the other clubs in my bag.
Especially asking about 3 wood and hybrid, I'm not sure if you can get x flex irons.
Thanks

Not necessarily, as there is no industry standard for flex profiles. So basically, one manufacturer's stiff may be anothers x-stiff. Also, I know my swing with my irons is a bit slower than it is with my driver, because tempo and control is much more important than pure clubhead speed.

I tell you what, it has made a huge difference in my game. I put an X in my 3 wood and 5 wood. Also, an X in my 21* hybrid. I play Project X 6.0's which a little stiffer than DG 300's so I would say yes. If you are hitting your X Driver consistant than you are probably pretty safe to put one in the other clubs. I use to be way to inconsistant with my other woods but now they are money....

There's more to driver shaft than flex... A lightweight 50 gram x flex may be softer than a 95 gram s flex.

I play an x flex 65 gram shaft in my driver and s flex in my irons... It's all about feel.

This is interesting... how can we know that difference in the flex of the shafts of different manufacturers?

You got a couple of choices. Either go to your local shop and get a full fitting, where they'll put you on a monitor and get your swing speed, launch angle, stuff like that. They'll be able to give you the different shaft options to try.

The other option is to check the manufacturers website. They'll have charts for you based on swing speed. If you have a good idea of what brands and models you want to check out, all I can say is hit them all, while on a LM. While it is a PITA, it is fun actually seeing the differences between manufacturers and models.

I'm not a

bone fide club fitter at all but comparisons on different shafts/manufacturers in terms of flex is probably best done using CPM (cycles per minute) measurements but they'll only be consistent if the shafts are clamped the same and the same force is used each time to generate the vibration in the shaft. Stiffer shafts give higher CPM numbers. You can find some interesting info re. shaft comparisons at the Hireko web site . In particular the PDFs on Current shaft data and their DSFI listings . Their DSFI index is quite a good measure of the "playability" of a given shaft with higher numbers being "harder" to use. Sort of!

Yes, I had a pro tell me that there is very little consistency on flexes across shafts from different vendors. You have to hit them to make a judgement.

The best thing you can do is go to a demo day. Once you settle on a driver head hit it in every shaft they have it in. The main reason I go demo days is to hit different driver shafts. I walk around and look at the shafts to decide what I want to hit...

You'll find that a low kick shaft feels like a board compared to a high kick shaft in the same flex from the same manufacturer. For what it's worth, the only driver shaft statistic I find useful is degrees of torque. I think the smaller the number, the more consistent the shaft... -PG

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
