Winter Golf Trip Suggestions

A couple of friends and I would like to take a golfing trip sometime over winter. No better place than here to look for some ideas. Ideally, it would be a warm location, in the United States, relatively cheap to stay and greens fees, and multiple courses to choose from. Any suggestions?

Southern California, Florida, and Arizona are the most popular winter golf destinations and the most expensive.

Cheaper options include San Antonio, Texas and Las Cruces, New Mexico.

What about the Robert Trent Jones trail in AL? Never played it, but heard very good things.

As far as the east coast/midwest is concerned, I've been to all of the mentioned places during winter and my experience has been that in most places, you're gambling with the weather.

Florida - Tampa/Orlando/Ft Lauderdale and southwards, is your best chance at getting warm and staying dry.

I have frozen my butt off (actually for golf, it's the fingers) in Arizona, Texas, Alabama and North Carolina. For those places, if the week ahead forecast is unseasonably warm, I might make a last minute trip.

What about the Robert Trent Jones trail in AL? Never played it, but heard very good things.

We can certainly get stupid cold in JAN and FEB, not too badly in South Bama, say Mobile, but a crap shoot jsut the same. Hell, I'm going to FLA!

Yeah, Vegas seems like a great destination. But I've heard that the golf there is over-priced, and the courses aren't that great. Is that true?

The Vegas courses (in general) are over priced considering the layouts.
Other than Shadow Creek ($500), the courses in Henderson and Mesquite are better.

Hitting it right on! RTJ has some awesome courses and the golf packages they offer are great. I've played 4 of the courses and loved them all. Just a tip: if you do an RTJ package and play the southern most courses (Lakewood Resort has 2 of the 4 courses I've played) take an extra day and drive down to play Kiva Dunes. It's not part of the trail, but you will not be disappointed!

Id just be happy to get away for a few days and play all the nicer courses in my immediate area. Granted they're not as nice as many of the courses mentioned but there are a few i havent played yet that id like to. Taking a long trip just isnt an option at this point, too costly.

about 12 of us go each year the first week of feb. a bit on the pricey side but the bob hope is played the week before and all the courses are in pristine condition. the weather is stunningly perfect every day with 75 - 80 degree days with not a cloud in the sky. seven perfect days of great golf. you can count on it!

There are cheap flights in Orlando if flying. Try north of Tampa/St. Petersburg on the gulf. Nice courses, plenty to choose from and very reasonable prices.

Tampa / St. Petes area always good. Have had friends go to Inverness, just north of there and had a very good time. Many, many choices in Florida.

Curious if anyone has ever tried South America? I know it is a much longer flight which makes it tough for a one week trip, but maybe 10 - 11 days (2 weekends bookending a week) would make sense. Argentina would be nice in the winter I am sure. If anyone has done that please share any details about whether it is worth considering (or not)?
