yeah, really you dont need to change. However if you dont feel comfortable with the X22's then you have to change them or you will get nowhere. I really recommend the Ping i15 irons, they are a fantastic club and they are designed for almost every type of player, look at Lee Westwood for instance, he plays chunky cavity backs (i10, the model before the i15) and still becomes the best player in Europe. I see people every day for custom fitting and new sets of irons and most of the time, i15's are the answer. Get them, you wont regret it.

I recently changed from X20's to MP-52's. For me, the ball flight is definitely lower (I also went from Uniflex to DG S300 shafts), bu thte biggest thing I noticed is if you hit a poor shot u really know about it, the distance is cut significantly...

Unfortunately, a fair comparison can only be made by comparing the heads when on the same shaft. If you 'upgrade' to a stiffer shaft (the DG S300 is designed to have a lower ball flight I believe) the shot will naturally be a lower more penetrating shot. Glad you love the Mizzies, it's the way forward! And I agree, golf is a game at the end of the day, enjoy the toys!

You can see below that I currently am hitting the Callaway X-22 Irons. I am very happy with these and my handicap is coming down slowly. I have been able to hit a draw and to some extent a fade, but it is not consistent. In the coming months, I will want to move on to an intermediate iron. I have looked at the Mizuno MP 52's and 57's and the Callaway X-Forged Irons. Any suggestions on the next evolution of clubs?

From January to March I test-hit several Ping, Titleist and Callaway iron models. I ended up with the X20 set.

I also hit the X20 Tour and X22 Tour models. You might give these a try before going after the X-Forged. Both the Tour models give you excellent feedback on impact - you know right away if it is an excellent, OK, or lousy shot. Also, the heads are smaller than the standard X20 or X22, and would be crisper out of the rough and easier to "work." Reviews are mixed on whether the X20 Tour or X22 Tour is better. Golf Digest says the X22 Tour is a truer player's club, but club designer Ralph Maltby says the X20 Tour has a lower vertical center of gravity and gets the ball up better. Check out the GD review: http://www.golfdigest.com/equipment/...tlist_irons_pi Maltby has scattered comments on the X22 Tour irons in his 2009 Forum discussion board: http://www.ralphmaltby.com/forum Decision point... The X22 Tour should be better if you can get the ball up OK; with its slightly higher vertical center of gravity , it would be easier to hit knock-down or lower shots when you wanted. Also, check out different shaft varieties. Shaft kick influences how high the ball goes. Note: The Tour PWs are 46* in loft, so you might have to bend your Pelz GW a little weak to keep your short-end yardstick.

I just picked a set up and feel the same way. And you can pick them up for next to nothing on eBay.

Well my original question sure elicited a bunch of replies. Many not well thought out, some very helpful and one from an immature individual. For those of you who posted serious replies with intent to help, I thank you. What I did was to purchase or borrow from Edwin Watts 3 types of irons I was interested in. Mizunos, Pings and Callaway Forged. I found that I could hit my current Callaway X-22's as good as or better than any of them. While I was doing this I noticed that one of the PGA Tour members, Rocco Mediate was playing X 22's and was certainly shaping some of his shots. Not a tough decision and I am staying with the X-22's until my handicap is significantly lower a few years from now. Again, thanks to those with thoughtful replies.

can i just know how callaway x-forged and mizuno mp 57's are considered "intermediate" irons? they are both designed for the better player. an intermediate player would greatly struggle imho. however, the x22's are great irons for players of all handicaps. if rocco can shape shots using them on tour, any player can learn to shape shots with them. stick with em for a while they are great clubs for you, im glad u made that decision.

Welp I have a set og MP-57's im willing to let go for the right price. They have the Project X 6.0's too..

I have also owned the X-Forged (Hated, sold quickly), which are much more difficult to hit than the 57's.

Ive heard things that getting blade irons if you arent prepared can be a killer for your swing if its not good enough. Along with buying the clubs, you may have to spend some dollars on lessons to fix your swing - blades will expose any faults in your swing.

Im a 9 hcp and i can move the ball slightly left or right - no more or less.
