Inconsiderate AND poor golfers are by far the slowest. I played last week and there was a couple riding in a cart while I was walking. They were on the green at the first hole, so I just hit it into the fairway. When I got up to my ball, they were still on the green. They just kept putting the ball back and forth over the hole probably 10 times each before finally hitting 3 one-footers from 3-feet to get the ball to drop. When they were done, they just sat in their cart for about 2 minutes and as I was walking up to ask if I could play through, they ignored my loud "Excuse Me"s and drove off. I kept trying to catch up to them, but they kept driving off after making me wait 5 minutes to hit my shot. I finally decided to start playing 3 balls off the tee just to kill time, but it started backing up behind me. I hadn't seen the couple in a while so I figured they were a few holes ahead. I turned the corner on the 6th hole and there they were! 20 feet in front of the ladies tees! I'd be surprised if they were sitting less than 6 or so. "Dude in the fairway, your head is clear for a flyby". I let driver rip and they got into their carts and skipped the next hole.

We preceded to allow the man to tee off and when he reached the spot where the original group was (on his 3rd hit mind you), I unloaded a ball about 40 yards over his head.

I don't know if you guys are serious or not but if so..... wow. Thats all I can say. There was clearly more than one assh*le on the course that day boys.

You guys are pretty tough though, I'll give you that. It takes a much bigger man to hit a golf ball into someone as opposed to openly confronting them about what they're doing to piss you off. Don't want to be a sis and alert the ranger or anything, better off just risking killing them. Especially old men and women. I really hope you hit the guy next time. I honestly do. Take it from someone who has seen someone's lights put out by an assh*le tee shot, that macho-man attitude will disappear reeeeeal quick. Next time I'm in my treestand hunting and someone else walks by I'm gonna put an arrow over their head just to let them know who's the boss of this jungle. Scare my deer away, will ya? Grrrrrrrrrrrr.... (double-fist chest pound) Slow play sucks, but it is part of the game. And it is a characteristic of a person's personality, not their talent level. You only have 3 hours to spare, probably shouldn't hit the course if it's Sunday afternoon. But please, spare me the - I bet this will get the point across - BS please.

I assumed they were making it up or exagerating. I mean, if everybody on the internet actually did all the tough-guy stuff they said they did, there would be a lot of guys posting from jail.

It should be added that it's poor form to even lie about doing these types of things because impressionable sorts might read a few of these posts and get the idea that this is something golfer's do. Just for fun - read this and think about it the next time you consider driving over somebody's head: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...g-partner.html Or better yet - watch this. On this losing balls thing, I cannot imagine looking more than 2 minutes for a ball. My bag has large pockets and several are full of balls. While it saddens me to lose a ball, my playing partner's time and the time of those behind me is far more valuable than a ball. I go to the spot, if the rock ain't there I drop one and go. I lost four balls yesterday on a new course with no one behind me, my time is worth something too!
As for hitting into or getting hit into, I think some of you must hit rockets, I promise I can hit you with my ball and you will not be injured. My wife took one in the calf and the bruise only lasted a month.

It is definetly not true that ALL slow golfers are high handicaps. I would consider myself a slower golfer and while im not a low handicap im certainly not a weekend duffer either. I am usually playing by myself however so pace of play is not a problem for me. If I get the occasional guy who is a single in a cart up on my arse I let him play through simply because I cant stand rushing so I can keep myself comfortably in front of him. I dont know how anybody can focus on their shots and play "comfortably" with people always right up on them.

While it is true that slow golfers cause slow play and not high handicappers cause slow play, the vast majority of people that I have had huge problems with were people that were not only terrible golfers but just had no clue how to play the game. What I hate most are the foursomes in carts I end up catching after two holes (nobody in front of them) and they never offer to let you play through the whole round. You watch them from the tee box and both carts go to one ball and watch a guy hit, then one of the carts goes sideways for the next guy and watches him hit while the other cart goes BACKWARDS and finds another guys ball who proceeds to hit after the guy on the cart that went sideways hit, then both carts proceed to drive to the other guys ball 25 yards on the other side of the fairway they started on and watch him hit. Its so frustrating when your trying to have a good round. The worst pace of play problem I ever had was with this idiot of a guy and his wife, who was probably a first timer. I saw this guy hit and unfortunately he was not a good golfer at all himself, and he was trying to teach his wife. Well I am on the 3rd teebox with my ball teed up waiting, and he is 40-50 yards up on the ladies tee box watching her tee off. Well she duffed off the tee 4 times in a row, and each time he would walk up and get her ball walk back and retee it for her. Keep in mind I am sitting there on the 3rd tee box for ALL for attemps, and there was a foursome on the 2nd green putting. After the fourth time of him getting the ball and reteeing, I yell are you f$*$* kidding me! and then she actually hits one that goes about 50 yards down the fairway the 5th time. Well anyways I finally hit my drive on that whole (its a par 5 with a creek about 40-50 yards from the green) and when I get to my ball in the fairway they are over to the left looking for his or her ball in or near the creek, so I just hit and walk right past them while they were looking for their balls. They saw me and looked at me but never said anything. For someone to be so selfish and to think nothing of something like that just irks me. Its these people and these types of personalities that get my blood boiling on the golf course.

I would generally agree with the fact that slow players cause slow golf, rather than high handicappers causing slow golf. But I played the other day with two maybe 15-20 handicappers who were very slow. Some of that was from them just being slow: walking slowly, not being ready to hit their shots, etc. But one of them took literally 0 practice swings the whole round, and advanced near the green at a reasonable, if not quick, pace. But he chipped back and forth over the green nearly every green, and never picked up his ball, even when he'd chipped three times already and had another chip. We ended up almost 2 holes behind, and most of it was from his time around the green.

it seems some folks are a little tee'd off with slower golfers so here's a few rules
for those slower golfers to follow in the style of Jeff Foxworthy to help ease
the tension a little.

If you don't pickup on a hole when your double par, you shouldn't be out there.

if your scores are so high that you don't bother to keep one,you shouldn't be out there.

If you spend more time looking for balls than hitting them, you shouldn't be out there.

If the only shot you can hit is one that requires the term "FORE!",you shouldn't be out there.

If you constantly top your way to the hole, you shouldn't be out there.

If you intentionally take big divots on practice swings and don't replace them, you shouldn't be out there.

If you can't get out of a shallow beach in 2, you shouldn't be out there.

and lastly.....

If you spend more than 5 minutes looking for a ball that costs 30 cents and
it's not your last one.............you shouldn't be out there.

Basically every reason on here is correct. I don't agree with hitting into people as the risk is just way too high. I really liked the one about people who think they are better than their abilities. I think this is something that's starting to plague golf as some golfers want to mimic the pro's down to their outfit. The other thing I hate is when a 4some all go to 1 persons ball than to the next. I never figured out why you can't go towards your ball and just stay clear. My other thing is we all complain but for avid golfers you have to realize its part of playing the game and will never go away so just try to enjoy a day not at work.

Nah, I was lying next to the pool with her, it was a tee shot that came in the yard and nailed her. It has been a few years; come to think of it she was pretty pissed.

As long as the high handicappers know proper golf etiquette and realize when they are playing slow I have no problem with them playing in front of me or with me. Same thing w/ low handicappers. Just because they hit the ball well doesn't mean they can't take just as long if not longer than high handicappers. They can take a super long time figuring out yardages, looking at angles of chips/pitches/putts that adds up to a long long round.

All you have to do is pay attention to the group in front and behind you. If you are way behind the group in front of you, chances are you need to speed up play. If the group behind you is on your butt all day and there is space between you and the group in front of you, you might not necessarily be playing slow. The group behind you might just be playing super fast while you are still on the appropriate pace.
