Jokingly, I was doing the Happy Gilmore drive, and it was pretty funny, but inconsistent. After a while, I started actually doing the Happy Gilmore, with confidence! Is it okay to use the Happy Gilmore drive in regular play? Or would you recommend going back to using the regular drive?

For some reason I just have alot more confidence, and it's not as inconsistent as I would guess. It's perfect for my fade.

Thanks!

Look up "Padraig Harrington Happy Gilmore" He can crush the ball doing it.

And yes you can use a Happy Gilmore while playing a round.
you'll get a few weird looks but there's nothing in the rules to say you can't.

Do you set your bag ahead before the group gets ready to hit? I mean, do you keep on running, pick up your bag on the way by, and run all the way to your drive?

I would strongly recommend this if it speeds up play!

hey if it works it works. absolutely no where in the rules of golf does it say you can't do it, so if someone gets mad tell em you didn't make the rules. all you can get are dirty looks. plus if you hit it straight, outdrive everyone, and sit in the middle of the fairway, you can't get dirty looks cause everyone will be embarrassed to be out hit that way

Every junior camp I run we always have a Happy Gilmore contest and it is the highlight of the day. The last time I checked this game was meant to be fun. There is not much more fun to be had than ripping a "Happy" 200+ down the pipe.

Haha, I knew someone would say that. No doubt I'll record it once I get some practice with it, so you guys can critique my happy swing, if that's even possible... :?

ive tried it before with decent sucess, decent contact but about 35 yds shorter than a normal swing

I'll do a few "happy gilmore" drives every now and then while at the driving range if it's not real busy and if I'm with my buddies. We'll see who can hit it the furthest just for fun. If I hit it solid, I can bomb it!

Normally? Padraig gained what, 20-30 yards, and he almost made a perfect swing. Is everyone else good enough to do this?

I don't see the point of doing this anywhere but on the range and on Happy Gilmore contests.

there is a thing in golf called etiquette. Golf is a proper game. Dont ruin it people. Also you mentioned hitting it 280+ straight. if you cant hit 280+ straight with a normal swing, you wont be able to with a happy gilmore swing.

This. Otherwise I say BS you are doing this on the course.

I hope I'm wrong though as this seems like an awesome way to win money from people. "20 bucks says I can drive it 250+ in the fairway with a Happy Gilmore." Ka-ching. Also seems like it would intimidate match play opponents.

lol

Think about watching your oponent on the first teebox running up to the ball and crushing it miles down the fairway! Only problem is there's a chance you could just top the ball and it barely goes past the teebox.

    • Day 252: worked on chipping for a while with my chipping net. Worked on low, medium, and high shots. Productive session.
    • Day 180 - 2025-03-29 Not a long time today, but I got my five minutes in jumping and doing some work on the downswing.
    • I’ll just stick to the basics for now - got enough to work on… this is my home practice range. The little clearing in about the center of the photo is roughly 200 yards.

    • Played Musgrove Mill today. 72.3/155. +9 for 15 official holes as 2 holes are closed, and the par 5 16th plays as a converted par 3. We played the first three holes over to finish 18, and parred 1 and2 amped bogeyed 3. The good: hit every fairway. 1 less than normal for the converted par 3, but the second time I have done that this year. My sand wedge approach on 10 after a monster drive hit the pin in the back left corner hit he pin and spun away to 9’, and I missed the putt.   The great: hit 8 GIR and 7 were inside 10’. Needs work: Missed every birdie putt. No lip-outs. Just struggled on fast greens. Three-putted the par-5 9th with the pin on the back tier and jut missed hitting my approach to the proper level and it spun all the way to the front of the green.
