lets see who has some tin cup in them would you go for the green if it took a flushed 3 wood over water to reach?i would but i play very aggresive.

Look up the #2 Par 3 at Lexington Oaks Golf Course in Wesley Chapel....its 235 from the back tees and water from the tee box, all the way up to 7 yards from the green. My buddies were snickering in the back round, but I put it within the putter grip from the hole. Birdied the #1 handicap on the course.

Depends on the circumstances. In a casual round with buddies, then hell yes! If it's in a tourny, then ill lay up and let my wedge do some work.

Tin Cup is awesome, and Always gonna go for it... If its in my reach i'll let her Fly...

It's the "15th at Augusta" exercise. If I've been invited for a round at Augusta National, and am lying on the 15th fairway with 230 to the green, I'm going to go for it. If I'm in the same spot on Sunday at the Masters with a one-shot lead, I'm going to lay up.

If it's a casual round yes.
It it's a competition.......... yes......
If I hit it into the lake I'll be taking my 4th from next to the lake so it isn't too bad.

Most likely, yes. But, in the real world I'd look at what trouble was around the green, and what kind of shot I'd have to make over the water if I laid up. I'm generally OK as far as hitting the ball clean with a fairway wood but whether or not I push it right is subject to debate...so the water wouldn't scare me so much as what happens when I miss the green.

ive always been a go for it kinda guy... if i have enough balls in the bag... sure why not...
i seem to have better luck going for it than laying up... ive laid up to perfect spots and couldnt get up an down from where ever... but im about better than 50/50 up to 75/25 in the hero shot dept

Depends on the lie and how I'm hitting that day but more than likely no if I had a 1 stroke lead or something. You saw what happened to Tin Cup. Aside from the cool hole out for 12, he lost the tournament. Woopty do. Not worth it.

No question I'd lay up. The only time I go for the green like that is if most of the misses would still be playable.

Some years ago, I hit 3w off the tee on a long PAR 3 over water. The ball rested about 4 feet below the cup and I made birdie. It was my very first birdie ever. What a way to go. I doubt that I could duplicate that shot today very easily.

lets see who has some tin cup in them

Nope.....I value my ProV1 too much to sacrafice it. Pulled two out of my pocket at the start of Monday's round....put the same two back in the bag after the end of the round. They had already lived through a prior 27 holes, too. Cleaned 'em up at the ballwasher and put some fresh red dots on each. Ready for next round.

Nope....I tend to layup on par 5s.....especially with hazards to consider. Not having to kill it off the tee helps me think...smooth and game for accuracy. Put the ball in a good line and then bunt it up to the SW/PW range and try to stick it tight. Now....if I've been busting out the Bud Lights and having a large time.....I may give it a rip....but generally those are on team events where we can be a bit more reckless.

If I am having a fairly good round i will go for it.

If I am having a horrible day I'll do the smart thing and lay up - no need to make that days score any higher

Depends what's around the green. If it's really tight, I'll lay up. If it's wide open with lots of room for a push or pull, I'll probably go for it.

    • Day 171 - 2025-03-20 Got a good 30 minutes in today. A little backswing so it doesn't get too far out of hand, then some downswing stuff. If I'm in a good spot at the top I have a chance even without the best downswing.
    • First day of spring and we had colossal snowflakes here.   The temperature has dropped significantly.   I may not get to golf until mid-April.
    • Welcome to TST.   We're glad you've joined.   How exciting to see a hole-in-one.   They are rare.  Congratulations on getting the golfing bug.   It can be contagious and expensive!
    • So to start with I’m 67 years old and just returned to the game a month or so ago after a 30+ year break. . To give you an idea of how long I’ve been away from golf, there were no hybrids last time I got serious about it. I’m enjoying it and seeing gains/improvement every time out. That said, I’m playing with antique woods (Old Taylormade Burners) and since I’m playing with Callaway irons (2004 BBs) I’d like to stick with the brand and upgrade to Callaway woods - at least a driver and a 3 for now.   For a glimpse of my ability, I hit the 3 wood 200 yards and more or less straight, and I think I newer tech clubs might help. Also I’m 6’5” and these clubs are a bit short for me, by 1 1/2” or so.   So looking at the gillions of perfectly fine looking Callaway drivers on eBay I’m completely overwhelmed and under-informed. I’m also doing this on a self-imposed budget since I’m not good enough to warrant new, exotic, pricey stuff and I’m pretty sure anything made in the last 20 years will do nicely.    So given all that, anyone have any specific suggestions on a good/prefered model Callaway driver that can be had for around $50? If I earn better gear by improving my performance I’ll go after it then, get fitted for clubs again, all that. But for now my goal is bogey golf so I’m limiting my golf allowance accordingly.    Thanks, cheers, and happy golfing.  As examples, I’m looking at RAZR, BBII, X460, Fusion FT series, Diablo, etc. and I can’t tell if they are all good and I should just shop price or if one or more are preferable over others. TIA…
    • G'day all. My name's Glenn and my mates call me Corbs. I'm a 50-something-year-old Aussie who HATED golf until COVID when I got utterly and irrevocably hooked. I'm playing three rounds a week and loving it. My best mate that I started golf with during COVID hit an Ace this week! Our foursome - including his son - all watched the ball disappear and we went absolutely mental! Only been playing a few years and improving quickly and trying to get to under 17 handicap this year. Thanks for having me!
