Tiger is different though. His father always talked about how he raised him with strong morals and values. I think that big thing is that so many people feel betrayed and that Tiger pretended to be one thing while clearly being something else.
I find it interesting that people keep saying he is "only human". IMO, being human means that you honor your promises and obligations to people. That means that when you say, "I do" that means that you are committing yourself to that woman and you arent going out and having realtionships and random sex with other women on the side.
Being "human" means that you dont give in to your chemical urges like some kind of animal.
I also think part of it is that people feel like Tiger tried to hide what he did. If he had some out the day after the accident and admitted that he had several affairs and admitted whatever else had happened (be it that his wife attacked him with a club and it caused him to crash or he just left the house while angry and that caused him to crash), I think a lot more people could have been understanding and respected Tiger. I understand his desire for privacy, but the way he handled it made him look like he has something to hide and doesnt want the truth to get out.

I’m not a big fan of the “being human” defense as a way to excuse one’s behavior.

We are all human, and that should ultimately go without saying.

The real question is, “Are we all rational creatures?”

Without delving too deep into the deontology of Kant… Tiger’s fungle in the jungle, and subsequent cover-up, was universally idiotic.

And, as we are all “human,” it is human nature to ridicule other humans when they fuk-up .

"Every man is his own hell" - H.L. Mencken

I think the "being human" comment is misunderstood. It has nothing to do with seperating us from the animal kingdom. It's reference is to our mortality and the fact that we sin.

If thats what he meant by that, then thats a big cop out. Saying that you are "only human" is no excuse for knowing right from wrong and choosing to do wrong.

That would be like someone murdering a family and then their defense being nothing more than them shrugging their shoulders and saying, "Im only human". Sorry, that doesnt work for me. If Tiger had simply had a couple one night stands with random women, I think I would have felt differently about it but the fact that he carried on a relationship for over 2 years (while his wife was pregnant with his kids, BTW) is pretty low. Tiger is scum, IMO and I hope his wife takes him to divorce court and takes him for all she can.

I wasn't refering to any remark that Tiger may have made. My comment was in reference to some of those made here.

Quite frankly, you aren't making a whole lot of sense. It would be OK if he had a few one night stands? ..and I certainly don't understand your last sentence. Evidently you don't realize that a nasty divorce harms all parties involved, regardless of who wins.

But Tiger's Dad died, it was quite apparant how much this affected him, I know how much losing a parent can change you and trust me you begin to do a lot of things out of character, I hope it all coming out will be the huge wake up call that he needed. The old Tiger could be back because of this.

I could accept a few moments of indiscretion much more than a continuous relationship of over 2 years. Not saying it would be OK, but it would be easier to forgive.

A divorce would be nasty, but you also couldnt blame Tiger's wife for doing just that. If I were her, Im not sure that I could ever trust Tiger again. Even if you love someone very much, a betrayal like that is difficult to get past and no doubt their relationship will never be the same.

I know plenty of people whose parents died and they didnt go out and do things like this. IMO, thats no excuse.

I do agree with you about this hopefully being a much needed wakeup call. Hopefully he will take stock of his life and move on as a better person.

I think this is to simplistic, people will react in different ways to death and it will emotionally effect them at different levels. Having said that, I'm not providing it as an excuse but as a reason for his behaviour. What he's done cannot be excused.

What's with all the talk about Tiger's dad imparting all of this great "character" to Tiger? Mr. Woods himself was divorced, and Tiger has several half-siblings from that first marriage. I don't think Tiger's dad would be in any position to criticize his son's behavior.

Ive not said anything about what Tiger's dad taught him?

Let stop being ridiculious. If everyone would live their own lives and not try to live through celeberities silly conversations like this wouldnt even take place. Tiger is a golfer you watch on TV he's not your friend talking about if you can or cant forgive him is just ridiculious. I am not condoning what Tiger did I'm just saying I dont care what he does off the course, to be honest I'm not even a Tiger fan so I dont really care what he does on the course I'm just saying you watch him play golf stop acting like this story affects you personally. I agree give it a break.

When I said Tiger was "human"...what I meant was he commits sins like all of us. Tiger's image was crafted for people to believe he was perfect....which he is not....he commits acts of bad behavior after bad shots, etc. People who believed he was perfect need to join the real world....it was just an image...not reality. How much do we really know about any golf or althelete except what we see on TV, etc....we don't know what they do when the cameras are off.

Tiger's dad left his first wife after he went on a one year tour to Korea & meeting Tiger's mother....so was he any better?

The reason is it a BIG STORY is because Tiger is one most well known altheletes in the world. If this happened to any other golfer....no one but golf fans would care. Tiger is the only golfer non-golf fans even know or would recognize.

What Tiger did was wrong...no doubt...but you know what.....golf tournament will still beg him to come because he is the biggest draw in golf by far....tournament attendence & TV rates are 1/3 higher when Tiger is in the mix.

After a few wins next season...all will be forgotten....am example.....Kobe Bryant's jersey is the biggest selling NBA jersey. No one cares what he did in the hotel in Colorado.

As I stated in the other thread some of you need to get off your high horses and quit persecuting Tiger for something that I guarantee ALL of you would do IF you were in his shoes.

You've got your pick of attractive women at your disposal wherever you go. A guy can only say NO so many times before you give in.

Of course, the major "hitch" in this scheme is that Tiger is married.

This is just another reason why most pro athletes should wait until they retire to get married and have kids.

I’m not a big fan of the “being human” defense as a way to excuse one’s behavior.

After more than a week of reading hundreds of comments on the Tiger situation, I must say this is the most accurate and to the point one that I have personally seen.
