Fairway Ball Marks?

Should they be repaired like ball marks on the green?

I would assume so but never hear it mentioned.

I believe so, you'd want to leave the course the way you found it :) Most golf carts have those sand mix things that are to be used in repairing divots.

Played golf yesterday and NO ONE repaired their divot marks on the green, sheesh!! I spend a good amount of time repairing everyone's divot on every single green AND even raked people's marks/prints from the sand traps... I guess a place that doesn't really enforce a dress code will have people playing that really couldn't care...

you are a good man. Seldom do i play a course like that but when i am forced to I tend to treat it the same as others...like step on a ball mark instead if repairing it. Of course I will never retrun to a course that isn't at least somewhat maintained. On the other hand when I play a well groomed course I will go out of my way to find a mark and repair...i would have to guess this is not proper

It drives me crazy to see unfixed ball marks on greens and divots in fairways. I really don't see why people can't take 30 seconds to fill a divot or repair a ballmark.

I did play a course one time that wouldn't let you fix your own divots or repair your own ball marks. They had workers on every hole that would do it for you and that was their job. Every time they see someone make a ball mark on the green or divot in the fairway, they'd run out and fix it. Something I've never seen before.

Just one caution... under the rules you can only repair a pitch mark in the fairway AFTER you play your next shot. Ball marks aren't typically a problem in the fairway anyway since you don;t have to worry about putting through them. It's unrepaired divots that can really be an issue.

Tell me about it. There should be a rule that allows you to take relief if your ball lands in someone else's divot.

The problem with that is at what point is a divot healed enough that you are not entitled to relief?

Nudge it closed with your shoe and step down to firm it up.

Sand in your divots and move one to the next shot. Don't sweat over this kinda stuff.

that should be when the lie of the ball would be similar to that at any location in the fairway. Meaning: the divot should actually be repaired and filled with sand OR the divot has healed enough to a point where the ball is suspendede off the ground by the grass. Otherwise an unrepaired divot should play as grouns under repair and receive releif of up to one club length (at the nearest point of relief, and no nearer the hole)

Disagree wholeheartedly, and it's off topic, so let's move on.

To elaborate on what FourPutt said, you can't tap down ball marks in the fairway if they're in your area of stance or swing. If it's five years behind the ball it's fine - tap it down as you walk past it.
