I've always been a bomber of the golf ball and im going to tell yall how ive done it.i use a homemade weighted driver.i have a regular shafted driver that i attached a 5 pound wrench to,yea i know its redneck but it works .with that much weight at the club head you can truley feel exactly where the clubhead is,and it really builds golf specific muscles.i promise you use this contraption as much as i do and you will be bombing it.it literally takes like 40 bucks to make one give or take 5 bucks.just wanted to share my power tips with yall.

Sport Science (the tv show) says this is a bad way to "gain power." Of course, their show was based on "warming up" by swinging heavier clubs.

Still, virtually every study I've seen on conditioning indicates the same thing: that swinging heavy clubs don't promote the growth and development of fast-twitch muscles, but rather the slower "strength" type of muscles. The opposite of what you want. Distance is about speed, not strength. So, you may have actually cost yourself swing speed. I advise that nobody follow your prescription.

He wasn't commenting on whether or not you are a long driver. He pointed out that your key might have

I've seen research using an underspeed/overspeed program that has increased bat speed in baseball players however I am not sure how accurate they are. The idea is that you use a combination of underspeeding your bat (weighted) and overspeeding it (lighter bat) to gain both gains in the strength department as well as developing fast twitch muscles with the overspeeding. Where I think this errored is swinging a lighter bat/club at a certain point sacrifices mechanics. If you remember during The Haney Project , Hank had Charles use a longer, heavier club to give him the feel of swinging the club, something Hank felt Charles didn't have when swinging a regular driver. Once a club/bat is too light you will sacrifice good mechanics.

I am not surprised at these figures. Assuming perfect timing, then clubhead speed depends on how much acceleration you have in the first part of your downswing. That acceleration is powered by the big muscles.

Pure muscle mass would not equal length in a swing.

Clubhead speed through the ball along with the trajectory off the clubhead and the size of the lever arm (length of the shaft, kickpoint) would be what makes the ball go farther (take away what the ball does once it leaves the clubhead).

Does muscle mass allow you to swing faster? To a point it must however, there has to be a point where that ends. If that was the case the biggest guys would always hit the ball farther.

disagree take two people with exact same swing length same swing positions guess who hits it further,theres a reason steroids are banned,they increase muscle which allows for a stronger hit means going further,so if it was up to you would you allow steroids in golf because bigger muscles dont hit the ball further?

and what muscles do you use for a swing your big muscles or small?i use hips,back,shoulders,you know the big ones and the stronger you are the faster you can push a club,assuming all things are equal i.e flexibility

The guy who swings the club the fastest hits it further. The ability swing the club faster does not come soley or predominantly from large, slow twitch fibers. Fast twitch fibers have to be what allows for the club to be delivered faster. Swinging a club faster has little if nothing to do with pure, brute strength. It is the ability to transfer energy to the ball.

Anabolic steroids at their most basic form increase testosterone which in turns promotes muscle growth. There are many different functions/benefits that are obtained by using them. I am sure Ben Johnson did not use steroids with the idea of increasing large amounts of muscle mass.

But you don't "push" a club, you swing it.

I'll guarantee you that your wrists, hands, forearms have a far larger part in your ability to swing a club faster than your back or shoulders. Why do you keep a loose grip when swinging the club? You do so to allow your hands and wrists to do their work. Swing with your shoulders and see how much slower your swing is. Speed comes from the hands and wrists.

i dont have a loose grip i activate my large muscles the looser my hands get the shorter the ball goes.ok tell you what go to the range and soley use your arms,forearms and wrists and tell me how that works for you.dont even think about a shoulder turn or allowing your hips to move,dont let it happen,dont let your body rotate and tell me how far your shots go.then use nothing but big muscles and se how far it goes.

Uh, yeah, cuz that's what I said...??? You're probably much stronger than Jamie Sadlowski, but that guy hits the ball 30% farther than you. Oops. I'm not the strongest guy on my hockey team, but my wrist shot and slap shot are much harder than a lot of the stronger guys.

Yep. Your back and shoulders do very little. Your core, btw wedge player, is lower. The largest muscles you use in your golf swing are, what, your hamstrings probably.

We could throw out ideas all night long and we would still disagree.

I know little about the golf swing and am relatively new to the game however I know a ton about the baseball swing and while different, tthe golf swing transfers energy in the same way a baseball player does from the time his front foot goes down and his hands are back.

Why your distances are shorter with a loose grip have nothing to do with power, you may get sloppy or you may be just looking for an argument. Don't take my word for it, go back to the first Playing Lessons with John Daly, one of the single longest hitters in golf history or look up the Golf Channel interview with Mark McGwire (who has a swing speed in the neighborhood of 130) and you will both hear them mention the importance of the hands and how you have to keep a loose grip to allow your hands, wrists, and forearms to do the work.
