happy new year first, second a question.
now i'm hitting my driver well, about 260, and my irons are much improved until I get to my 4 iron. 5 iron, I'm getting close to 170now but i just cant hit the 4, and the three is worse. Just low liners. Any help?

if only i could blow up one less time per round ...

Is the ball forward in your stance? this could help with trajectory

Sumo 3 & 5 Woods Pro launch shafts

yes I play it forward in my stance, just about like the 5 iron. i have a hard time hitting anything with the ball back in my stance.
It feels like good contact, but doesn't get any hieght.
P.S. I shot 96 last weekend on a frozen course! I didn't use anything off the fairway bigger than my 5 iron, which I got along with so well that I took it out to dinner afterwards.

Replace your 3 and 4 iron w/ hybrids. No sense and beating your self up trying to launch a long iron. You should be able to find some used hybrids for cheap to see how you are going to like them.

hybrids... as everyone has said, they are easier to hit and will help MOST golfers. For me, I hit 3-4 irons fine, but I can do more with a 3 hybrid than a 3-iron, plus it lands MUCH softer. 2-iron I cannot hit... thus I carry a 2, and 3 hybrid, but keep the 4 iron in the bag since I hit it well, plenty high, and still like using it over a hybrid for tree trouble and such.
My Clubs: Callaway FT-i Tour LCG 9.5° w/ Matrix Ozik Xcon 6 stiff; Sonartec GS Tour 14° w/ Graphite Design Red Ice 70 stiff; Adams Idea Pro 2h(18°) & 3h(20°) w/ Aldila VS Proto 80 stiff; Adams Idea Pro Forged 4-PW w/ TT Black Gold stiff; Cleveland CG12 DSG RTG 52°-10° & 58°-10°; Odyssey...

You may be falling back upon impact or it may have just been the fact that you were playing on frozen turf and couldn't get solid contact.

Career Bests:

9 Holes--37 @ The Fairways at Arrowhead-Front(+2)

18 Holes--80 @ Carroll Meadows Golf Course(+9)

Home Course:

1) The Fairways at Arrowhead

2) Mayfair Country Club

I don't carry a 4 iron for the same reason. I carry a hybrid that replaces my 4 iron, its not only easier to hit but the ball flight is nice and high that lands softly plus I use it out of the rough.

I love long irons, they have such a great feel, and they really just rip that ball like a bullet into the air.

But like many things people love, others hate them. Some people see long irons as hard to hit, harsh, and useless.

Your game is just that, yours, and you need to determine which one you prefer. If you like hybrids, use them. If you like long irons, use them. Heck, I believe Vijay used to carry a 2 iron, and a 7 wood! You really can't make a wrong choice in the matter. What makes you feel the most confident, and makes you play the best, is what you should choose.

    • Idk but I would have to imagine that a putter that is aimed where you think it's aimed would be the most important aspect of a putter

    • Nothing exposes low point control, and for that matter the general quality of ball striking like tight lies. Lol! I am at a crossroad. My days of playing with a super strong left hand grip are coming to an end it seems. I'm finding it increasingly difficult to maintain proper face control through impact as the club face naturally wants to turn over. The quality of strike and ball flight difference when I weaken the grip is stark. Problem is a weaker grip is at odds with my poor sore left forearm which I have been nursing for last few days after 3 days of demanding golf. As of now I will continue my 'transition' to a weaker grip with woods and hopefully my forearm will condition as I go along. Maybe someday I'll get to a normal address with irons too.
