To actually get back on subject, I can understand why AK likes to choke up on his clubs. I tend to do it myself, maybe I sacrifice a little distance but it just feels more comfortable gripping the clubs near the bottom of the grip than out toward the end, probably choke down an inch or more. I didnt even realize I did it until I watched AK do it on tv and then I started noticing my own grip more.

I wouldn't do it if you are trying to improve. I think it's a bad habit.

Ha, remember this is the guy who keeps correcting me in one thread saying that you need to swing a lot harder at the longer clubs, especially the long irons!

Yeah, that's good advice. Make sure to hit up on your long irons too, and be sure to use your arms, not your core.

A lot of people like the feel of gripping down because it changes the swingweight a bit. Anyone who plays the drums knows that when you want to have more power, you grab the butt end of the stick, but if you want control, you grab it at the balance point. When you grip down, you are closer to the balance point, therefore the club feels a bit lighter.

No, it's not at all. In fact, it's probably a good habit. If more people gripped down, you'd see less balls in the woods.

you'd see less balls in the woods.

I don't usually see any...i wait till they're done, then i go take a piss

The subject has nothing at all to do with Kim "choking up" on his clubs.

The original post was an inane post by a fool who knows nothing about golf asking how Kim swing with clubs "so" short, when they aren't short at all.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

    • Day 7 - Mirror work, trying to hit that PGA-logo position in my follow through. Mirror really helped, need to film soon.
    • So hit the😝 irons crooked AND play layup golf?? Hahaha.. no thanks. I would rather stay home. 😊
    • First - glad to see these popping up again. Now to the topic at hand - I would rather be option 1.  If I know how far it's going (I mean a yard or two) I can always play to the wider parts of the fairway and/or the green and still do reasonably well.  Now if I could just really hit the "number" that well.
    • Day 2 (10 Mar 25) - Long day of driving to dr appt with son.  Thankfully got in one of my fave putting drills (two ball side by side) - the goal to have both balls come off the putter face equally by having them come off the putter face as close to the same time as possible.  First few rolls - the toe was leading the way as that ball flew off the face.  By the end of the drill both balls were basically equal off the face, rolling to within a couple of inches of each other.  Nice drill of focusing on squaring the face.  BTW - I was using the old Odyssey DF992.
    • Day 161 - 2025-03-10 Got a decent, long session in. Focused mostly on the backswing feels, and moved on toward the end of the four hours (not all hitting balls, I installed a motion sensing light switch in there too, and worked with a student over FaceTime for a bit) on the downswing feel.
