Well, my appointment has been confirmed. Going down on Friday 2/5 to get fit at Callaway. Going Driver through SW. Might as well do the putter while I'm down there too. From the confirmation letter:

A certified Callaway Golf Club Specialist will conduct a fun and
informative performance evaluation to determine which clubs work
best for you. You will be hitting balls indoors while the "Callaway
Performance Analysis System" measures your ball flight, using the
same tools as our R&D; experts and tour professionals. Since you will
be hitting golf balls, please wear comfortable golf attire, golf shoes,
and bring your golf glove. If you'd like to compare your current
equipment to your new custom

I'm pretty excited about this. I've been fit before, but never at the factory.

Plus, after the fitting my buddy and I are going to play at Coto de Caza. I'm gonna tear that place apart.

You have my sympathy. After you get your new clubs might I suggest you take them to a clubfitter and have the lofts and lies checked for accuracy? I've readjusted a dozen sets of XTours for players who had their clubs "fitted" at Callaway. The only thing right on one set was the grips- swingweights were way off, lofts and lies not set right, lengths were erratic.
Just sayin'

I had the mis-fortune of being "fit" for a set of X22s last year. I figured the guy knew what he was doing since he was using a launch monitor as well. So I ended up being "fit" for half-inch shorter shafts and 3* flat.

When my local pro re-gripped my clubs (the Callaway "fitter" never even bothered to take this into account) it was pointed out that 3* flat is way too much for me. Anyway, after trying some "off-the-shelf" AP1s / AP2s, it turns out that standard length and lie fits me just right.

Sounds like fun. Let us know how it goes.

How would new/different grips affect your optimal lie angle and length?

They wouldn't, but my local pro thought they looked pretty flat when he was working on them, so asked me what specs they had been fitted to. When I told him they were 3*, he thought that was a bit extreme, so have me some impact tape and a lie-board... at which point the results were obvious.

Well, I already know that I'm standard length and 2* upright. I'm using this to take advantage of getting proper shafts, the right driver and 3 wood.

That was pretty fun! Spent just over an hour in the indoor studio with the cameras and computers and launch monitors, all the cool stuff.

Started with irons of all different compositions. X Forged, X Prototype, Diablo Forged. Project X and S300. Was looking into the Diablos for a 3 and maybe 4 iron, but as the launch monitor told me, I wasn't getting enough spin nor ball flight for that club to work right for me. They are a great feeling club though. A lot nicer than the X22 Tour 3iron I have in my bag right now. I ended up going 4-7 iron in the X-Forged and 7-PW in the X-Prototype .

No 3iron, yeap. From ultra traditionalist to two hybrids in my bag. I'd have never thought I'd see the day. 2008 FT 2h and 3h .

FT Tour 3wood out, Diablo Edge Tour 15* 3wood in! This thing is sweet. I am a fan of the feel of the FT fairway wood, but was always only about 90% on the look of it. This Diablo has the feel, and the look I'm going for. Going with the Aldila Voodoo X Stiff 70g shaft.

On to the driver. Spent a little time with the Diablo Edge. It felt really nice, then the tech put the FT Tour in my hand. I was sold on the very first shot. Wow, it felt solid. 9.5* also with the Voodoo X 70g shaft.

Got a little spec sheet of my club order and performance specs.

Driver: 104.30MPH swing speed, 152MPH ball speed, 14.20 launch angle, 2067 spin rate
6-iron: 88.10MPH swing speed, 121MPH ball speed, 4680 spin rate

Got my first club in today. Looking at a beautiful Diablo Tour 3 wood with the Aldila VS Proto 60g X shaft. An hour and a half left in the golf shop, then straight to the 1st hole!

Ben- If you dont mind me asking, what degree are your hybrids? I noticed your 3 wood is 15 so I was wondering if your irons and hybrids are a smaller degree than usual? For instance, my 4 hybrid is 23* and my 3 wood is 15* so Im looking for a 19 degree 3 hybrid to fill the gap.

I did this a few years ago but I don't remember the details - I think it was something like $100 and you got that back if you bought clubs within a certain amount of time.

Thanks dudes.

Yeah about the cost for fitting, I got this free, but I have heard from members at my club that its around $150. And like TD22057 put, you get that back if you buy Callaway.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
