Got my order in today for new custom fit Nike VR irons and wedges. They said 2 weeks for delivery. So I'm struggling to wait that long.

Boy, oh, boy, this will be a major improvement over my current set of TM Burner irons, which I have been playing with since, cough, cough, 1994.

In my bag:

One for slicing
One for hooking
One for knocking it in the cup

I am sooo tempted to pull the trigger on the new Mizuno MP-58s. They are incredibly soft and way more forgiving than my 60s. I think I'm going to give my 60s one more year and then pull the trigger on the 58s around the holidays next year!

Congrats! That's awesome. Sounds as if it's due time for a new set. I've been looking into getting the VR cavity backs and the new FW. The shafts are quite nice stock with the DG's but I'd like to upgrade myself. Did you get blades, splits, or full? What customizations did you choose? When you get those bad ass sticks in be sure to keep us updated!! I just posted a new thread asking about these. Congrats again!

They are the splits with stock length Dynamic Gold S300 (stiff) shafts with +1/64 VR grips. The club heads are 1 degree upright. My brother-in-law works for Nike so they are coming from the employee store in Beaverton, OR. I can't wait.

According to Maltby, the splits are actually the hardest of the three to hit. Don't know quite how much that means (off center hits will absolutely be more forgiving with the splits), but I'm curious to know what you think when you get them. Mine go from blades (PW-8), splits (7-5) to cavities (4-3). I am thinking of buying the full set of blades so I can mix and match depending on what I need for the day. I certainly know I'll buy the matching 2 iron as well.

HAHA If only all of us were that smart to carry only those 3 clubs. That's all ya need. Instead we're all out fighting an endless battle to master a game that can never actually be "mastered". No, not even by Tiger. He's just REALLY REALLY REALLY good.

The blades I tried were very tough for me to hit, granted they were rifled. If I didn't hit dead center, it was a bad hit.

That's a great idea to mix up your irons like that. When I get these babies, I'll have to see if mixing irons will help me with any holes I might have. But at this point, I hit the hole set, and every club felt great , both with shaping and distance.

Hopefully when these irons are delivered, I can change it.

Yes, I have heard that they are fantasic irons. Although its a great thing that you have had them fitted. The worse thing is to buy expensive irons then not being able to hit them. Have fun with them and good luck!

It's a great feeling when you get a new set of irons!

Congrats on your choice to get fitted first. I'm sure you'll do well.

I recently traded in my used Callaway Fusions (4 - SW) for a new set of the Callaway Fusion Wide-Soles (3-PW). Although they are the 2006 model, they were brand new still in plastic and only $600 vs the original $1,400 price tag. thank you Edwin Watts.
The course I regularly play is somewhat wet, especially on the approach area, so I thought the wide-soles might help. I also wanted the 3 & 4 wide-sole irons as they are like a hybrid.
I hit both the steel and the Stiff Graphite before deciding on the Stiff Graphites. The launch monitor showed me consistently hitting the Stiff Graphite longer with a smaller dispersion.

I hope the 3 & 4 will replace the Nickent 3 & 4 DC hybrids I've been using.

So far the shot pattern has been a little right.....I know it takes a few rounds to break them in...so I am still hopeful it was the right decision.

...honestly? my grandfather has 3 FULL sets in his basement, green dots, 2 of the sets he bought new himself. he uses 2 of the 3 for when people on business would be in town and didn't bring any. the sets are 2-SW2...yes, i'm serious
