What are some likely causes and fixes for lunging at the ball? I will go to the range and hit a number of good shots. Suddenly, I will feel myself lunging at the ball, with the inevitable sh*** happening. It usually first occurs with a 5 or 6 iron, and then seems to travel throughout the bag.

I have alternated between a Graves Golf/Moe Norman single axis swing, a rotational /Hogan/Slicefixer swing (for those of you familiar with Golf WRX) and a S&T swing/ Sean Foley swing. I know that I need to stick with one style, but the lunge doesn't seem to be peculiar to any particular style. I also recognize that video would be of benefit, but don't have ability to do that now.

Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated. I'm trying to be patient, and hope to get to Golf Evolution for a lesson or class, but Spring seems far away right now. Thanks.

my advice, don't lunge at the ball. this is a byproduct of bad posture and balance., straighten your back and keep your head steady. that always works.

Don't spend another penny on instruction, equipment, or other junk, get a camera. The camera tells no lies, and even a small digital point and shoot camera will usually have a video feature (I use a Canon, and it works great). You can find an old or used one cheap, and with the large capacity memory cards avalible, you can shoot forever (I can go for 2 hours and 13 minutes on one memory card).

Just because you may feel that you're lunging doesn't mean you are. What we feel is often not what is real. When I got a camera, my swing was just dreadful, huge over the top, ultra flat backswing, head moved everywhere, feet moved all over, swayed, swung past parallel, arms broke down, hit up on the ball, wristy, hands dominated, almost too awful to watch. After a few months, most of those problems were being fixed, and now about 7 months later, my swing looks very good, nice hip thrust, hit down, short swing, wide arc, body does the work, etc. Without a camera, I would still be hacking away, with nothing but a guess as to what I was doing wrong.

    • I am currently playing a Cobra Ltdx LS 9 degree driver and Cobra Ltdx LS FW3. Both with Tensei White stock stiff shafts and original weights of 12g (heel) and 3g (toe). My miss is usually a pull fade or sometimes a slice, swing is out to in. Driver swing speed about 112 mph. Grips are stock regular. Intended change: Driver: Switching to Tensei White x-flex one inch shorter which I suppose would be 44,5? Changing heel weight to 18g. Changing grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Change hosel setting to standard draw. FW3: Changing heel weight to 16g (apparently not available in FW weights, but supposed to be something called "internal weight" a club builder can add which fits between the weight and the screw?). Change grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Changing hosel setting to standard +1. The goal is to 1) get better grip since I tend so lose grip in warm and moist conditions with the current grips and 2) mitigate the misses to start more straight with less side spin. Also considering adding the Cobra Ltdx LS FW5 instead of my old Taylormade R9 and getting 14g heel and 6g toe weights with the same grip as the others and hosel setting standard +1.   All of the above is based on conversations with ChatGPT and, as everyone knows, it can come up with pretty much whatever but I spent a few hours asking about different perspectives etc and this was the recommendation. So, my question is basically, does it make any sense?   Thanks.
