I was just curious if a Kindle was really worth purchasing. I saw that some books cost more on the Kindle than they do to purchase in the store or Ebay. So im not really sure if I want to purchase it. Can anyonetell me what they like about theirs or even sell me on the Kindle?

I was wondering if colleges offer their books on Kindle and if it eventually gets filled or something happens is there a place that you can save your books or whatnot so you dont lose them. Also if there was a way to purchase the hard coy of the book at a cheaper price if you already had it on Kindle. Thanks all in advance

I have mine and love using it. It'd take a lot to "fill" a Kindle - and even then you can just keep a copy in your Amazon account. I've yet to see a book that wasn't at least several dollars cheaper on Kindle than via amazon's regular pricing. I don't use eBay or visit used book stores - I like my books new.

The note-taking capabilities are great. I have a clippings file and things that I use frequently. I know a lot of definitions but I think one time I looked up a definition using the Kindle - very cool. It's incredibly easy to read and, if like me, you turn 3G off when you're not buying anything, it'll work fine.

No discount on hard-cover books (it'd be nice, and I think Amazon would offer it if the publishers allowed it), and don't get an illustration heavy book unless the illustrations work well in greyscale.

You can view your Kindle books on your computer or even your iPhone other places. I've read a few Kindle books on Windows when I wanted to refer to things as I was writing about them, or copy/paste them, etc. Your clippings, etc. sync everywhere.

The only accessory I've bought for mine is a $30 cover which works great and is all I need. The only feature I wish they'd add would be folders.

I wouldn't say I "love" mine but I'm not one to toss that word about lightly. I use mine all the time, and enjoy the experience.

Before you decide for sure, check out

i have one and use it alot. mostly because i travel 2-3 days a week. Its not just books, but mostly magazines and newspapers. so much easier than having to drag them with you.

now if you want to know whether you should wait for the iPad, that's a separate discussion

I've got the version installed on my iPhone and use it a moderate amount.

It's great for reading a novel in poorly lit situations and handy for having a good novel always at your disposal.

I can imagine that the ipad really would bring this to life even better!!!!

Here's how I see that:

iPad - great for magazines or things which are heavily illustrated Kindle - great for books, because the battery lasts longer and the screen is great for reading text - much better than the iPad (or a computer). It's just too bad color e-ink is 112 years away (or whatever).

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
