I currently play an 8.5 FT-9, 3-PW + 52, 56, and 60 and then I switch back and forth between a 13 degree 3 wood and a 2 iron. I think it's time I put a hybrid in the back but I'm not quite sure what loft (or brand) to purchase. I am a long ball hitter so this will be primarily for off the tee and the occasional par 5. My coach was thinking I should get a 3 iron hybrid because it will be good to have the loft and I will still hit it farther than my 3 iron. Is this logical thinking or should I get a 2 iron hybrid? I don't really need the distance but I don't want something I hit the same distance as my 3 iron (230). Any thoughts? Also, what brands are popular nowadays? I play primarily callaway but I am open to anything as long as I can purchase it with an x shaft.

Thanks!

wether its a 2h or 3h doesnt make too much of a difference. Taylormades 3h is a 2h in most other brands. What loft is your 3 iron? My guess is 21 or 22. If you get a hybrid of the same loft as your 3 iron you will hit it further because the shaft is longer. Im a fan of the Titleist and Cobra hybrids.

What are you expecting to get from this hybrid that a club you already own could not do?

I'd go with a 2 iron hybrid then. I feel like it would be a good median between the 3 wood and the 2 iron. It is more forgiving, and will go higher then the 2 iron and is just as long.

as far as brands, i would look at the Adams hybrids. They always get very good reviews. I have a the A7 3i hybrid (19*), but at your handicap, you may prefer the Adams Idea Pro Black (16* or 18*).

I use a Nickent 3DX hybrid 21 degrees that replaces my 3 iron. It's an older model but very easy to hit.

Take a look at

Ronbo25's other post on this site. Have you considered getting a 4W? This would give you 3-4* more loft than your strong 3W. And, with your swing speed, you could blast it out of light rough. Just a thought. Back before hybrids hit the scene, several tour pros carries 4W as their only fairway metal.
