I'm going to the Annapolis area with friends the end of April and would like suggestions for courses to play. We'll be there for 4 days.

Thanks in advance.

Queenstown River(nicer of the two) and Lakes are both very nice courses also very pricey. I'd also look up compass pointe in pasadena and if you are looking for the closest public course I think its bay hills in arnold. Eisenhower is a close public course but it's kind of crappy. If you want to know anything else about the area I live 10 minutes from annapolis.

The US Naval Academy golf club is a real nice old course, and it was designed by William Flynn. Also, South River is pretty decent.

need to be able to get on the base to play the naval academy course. South river went private however I think he could still get on there but again it's expensive

I havent been home in a while, when did south river go private? Im surprised with the bad economy

Posted
I think it went private a little over a year ago and it's expensive. I think it's $17,000 down and $500 a month but I don't think they have many members because they still run a lot of scrambles. When I first moved here I paid $2700 included carts for queenstown, south river and potomac ridge. Granted it was weekdays after 10 and weekends after 12 but it was easily the best deal I found.

Thats wierd South River did that. That deal you did sounds real good those Queenstown courses are sweet. Have you played that new Lake Presidential course around Upper Marlboro? Ive heard its pretty nice.

Check out Rendition Golf Course. It's about 14 miles west of Annapolis and it features replicas of venue from major championship holes (Augusta, Hazeltine, Inverness, Southern Hill, Royal Birkdale, Medinah, Carnoustie, and more..) Currently runs in Winter rate and fee is less than $50. It's a must play golf course, especially Master's is coming soon. Replicated Amen Corner is awesome.

Lake Presidential is really nice I played there in october and it was in great shape. The $125 dollar greens fee are a bit of a turn off but winter rate is $65. Renditions I've played there 2 times in the 3 years I've lived here and it was my 2 worst golf experiences. First time I went the course was beat up so bad putting was a pain because you'd have to fix 40 ball marks and the tee's we just all divots. The second time I went the guy in the pro shop took over 30 minutes to ring up the 4 people infront of us so I went to talk to the starter real quick and he suggested we just skip the first hole or two. We ended up waiting an hour to get out and they had 3 greens closed(no one told us) so we got to putt out amen corner on the fairway. I haven't been back there in over year so maybe they've fixed some things but I wouldn't tell anyone to play there.

I live in Annapolis. I thought South River was trying to go semi-private but never actually did? You can still play there if you want. I have only played there twice and the second time it wasn't in the greatest condition. The first time was the night my son was born and I will always remember it. Its a nice course, but Queenstown's River Course (same owners as South River) is the nicest in the area by far. Hunters Oak is challenging and usually isn't very busy if you want to play there, right down the road from Queenstown. Its always in good shape. Both of which are on the other side of the bridge in Queenstown.

Renditions I played once and it was ok, my dad had played before and swore never to go back because the condition it was in. They have look-a-like holes of some of the greats so it was fun for me, I probably wouldn't go back. Lake Presidential is a really nice track and should be on your short list of places to play.

Bay Hills is a dog track, along with Eisenhower.

Thanks Drewdown. We will avoid Bay Hills and Eisenhower and too bad about Renditions. Maybe we'll swing by and take a look before settting a tee time.
