Congrats! Breaking 100 is such a big step, and like people have said, it's a barrier that many don't break. 4 pars in a row isn't too shabby either, you must have been hot! Good luck with your game this year, I hope breaking 100 is motivation for you to go out there and keep improving.

There's a moment you get to, where you're having a bad day, and you look down and say, "8 pars in a row... Come on birdies!" Pars become fairly easy after a while, but my handicap is from going after birdies when I should focus on playing for all pars. I have never gotten through a round without making some boneheaded move trying to drive a par 4 or reach a par 5 in 2 and walking away with a 10. Perception I guess.

Well done! Getting 4 pars in a row is not a fluke, and shooting 44 on the front means you have a lot of the pieces in place. You just need to minimize the blow-up holes (just like every other golfer in the universe). One way to limit disaster holes is to just play for bogey sometimes and not get too wrapped up in making miraculous recovery shots. Also, work on short game, that will be the quickest way to get to your next goal.

So true, the more I play this game the more I realize that scoring is so attached to the short game, especially putting. I find blow up holes usually stem from stupid decisions, like Shanks said a couple of posts ago. If you can control you emotions out there and play smart, you will help keep blow up holes away.

Thanks for all the Congrats fellas.

Someone asked earlier how is my handicapp 23 if I only just shot under 100.
To be honest I have no idea what my handicapp is or for that matter I don't really care what it is,but when I was registering on this forum it wouldn't let me complete my registration unless I gave a handicapp score so I just typed in 2 random numbers.

Congrats.

I just joined you, too, sort of, so I hope you don't mind my joining in on your thread. Broke 50 for 9 holes with a 48! Fortunately it gets paired up with my last 9 hole round which was a 51, so I both broke 50 for 9 and 100 for a handicap round. Didn't play all that well, really, but I cut out most of the awful shots and kept to double bogey or better. The only pars were saves, one with a putt from the fringe. Sadly, the one GIR ended up as a double bogey thanks to my fantastic quad-putt! But it's nice to have that hurdle out, and feel like the next one is not too far off if I can just get a couple things under control.

Just had to revive this thread because I repeated my sub-50 9-hole score with another 48. Turns out I was off by one, so this pairs up with my last 48 for handicap purposes, dropping me off the 36.4 cap for the first time! Yay!

That is all.

I don't blame you for being happy! I still remember the first time I broke 100. I remember all of my firsts on the golf course very fondly. You will, too.

    • I imagine there might be a fine, that's what the PGA Tour does for bad behavior.  Not sure if the USGA has any kind of Code of Conduct that would address this.
    • I've used this for planning, good information about courses, regions, transport, and lodging. Amazon.com  I prefer to stay in B&Bs, and have enjoyed playing many non-famous courses.  Hiring a car for many weeks is likely to be pretty expensive, but train travel is possible between regions.  I don't know about taxis for getting to courses, but that might be cheaper than hiring a car.  I certainly recommend staying in St Andrews for a while, there are 6 courses within the St Andrews Trust, and a shuttle will take you from one to the other, not including the Castle Course.  Beyond that, there are a dozen or more good courses within an hours drive, including Carnoustie and Kingsbarns and a bunch of lesser-known but fabulous courses.   Good luck, Scotland is a fabulous place!
    • I am looking to do a solo trip to Scotland, maybe 3 to 4 weeks, not golf every day but see some of the country in between. Looking more for convenience of travel to courses  than any particular courses. Any help on  best location, courses, accommodations appreciated.
