Too add to this thread, I am also considering at least one new wedge, probably lob. Question is, if I go buy a used vokey, that is maybe 2 years old, will the fact that the grooves are worn take away from the performance greatly?

LOL - which one is that now?

I didnt mean to imply that mizuno was a lower quality than adams. My point is whats better?, a used vokey or a brand new wedge from another company not so famous for their wedges.

Not to start something, but I tend to think "not so heavily marketed for their wedges" would be more accurate.

When you look at touring pros' "WITB" details you'll definitely see a lot of Clevelands and a lot of Vokeys (Titleists). There are plenty of PINGs, Mizunos, and others out there too, they just might not be as prominent. My point is, there are a lot of great wedge choices out there - even Adams if it fits your game. Don't limit yourself by brand. They're like putters - very personal and there is no one wedge that's right for everyone. The best wedges I own are my oldest ones - a couple Ram Tom Watson's from the late 80s and a Mizuno Pro 3-wedge set from the early 90s. If I had a groove sharpener, I'd put them all back into service.

Another question on the Vockeys. Can you have them bent for lie angle? I am thinking about going 2* upright with them.

Fair enough. I guess I could pick almost anything and get a better feel than using wedges that are just tacked on to the end of a set of irons (like my Di7 wedges now)

Answered my own question today. Had a 52*, 56* and a 60* bent 2* upright and had the 52* loft strengthened to a 51*. Just got back from the range and it was night & day. From the first time I set up to them I knew I had it dialed in.

I acutally bought a new 56* and 60* to compare the standard lie to the upright one and I will be taking back the standard one to have them bent too. Now I have an extra pair which to me is a good thing IMHO. Guess I am a wedge •••••! LOL

You should read my story about a not so friendly clubmaker who got mad at me for trying to have my CG-12s bent. I went to another clubmaker a few days later, had the same discussion, and this guy didn't get mad or anything, and said they were easy as pie to bend. I told the second clubmaker the story about the first and he just stared at me with wide eyes.

Finally he says, "if this guy has really made clubs for tour pros like he says, than he'd know that your wedges are two of the most common wedges on tour, and anyone can bend them. Sure, the 588 is not easy to bend, and I can't guarantee it won't snap, but I can certainly try." 5 minutes later, both my wedges were 2° upright, and I was happy.

For sure. Now I am taking in my set of Callaway X22 Tours to have them bent 1* upright (came special order from factory already 1* upright) for a total of 2* now. When I bought them I went with how I had my old clubs set up at only 1* (purchased 10 or so years ago). I guess my swing has changed since my layoff. I wanted to give myself a good 3 months of getting back into the groove before I messed with the lie beyond my old standard of 1* upright.

I am pretty excited, today I had one of my best sessions at the range. The new 2* upright Vokeys set the pace for it. Man I can't wait to get on the course Saturday! Funny, as I am dialing in as I come back from my layoff. I knew the standard lie Vokeys were too flat for me. I confirmed it last weekend. I had a moment when I took a full swing with my 56* wedge on a third shot of a par 5. I could see (almost as if in slow motion) my club enter the turf as I took a divot. I could visually see the toe dig in first and deeper. The divot also showed a slightly longer toe edge than the heal edge. Either way I love my Vokeys. I guess I better change my signature line to reflect them. (though my Cleveland 588's did me good for many years)

i had the same problem a few months ago. i used a wilson ultra sw which was part of my beginner set and played well with it (getting very little spin) so i had to learn many different shots to use around the green and for half shots. now that i purchased the vokeys the spin is incredible and I'm able to control the ball well, getting it to spin when i want but also to release if i need to. my advice is that you learn all these shots before going out to buy new wedges that won't really benefit your game.
i remember the last few rounds i played before it snowed here... my ball striking was terrible but i managed to improve my handicap cuz i was hitting my wedge shots to an average of 3 feet...close enough for a one putt.
the vokeys are helping me but only after i learned how to hit all the different shots
