I stretch every morning/night because I have lower back problems from pitching in baseball for 12 years. I do our stretching program from college...always helps

Yes, I always do golf oriented stretching after my am workout. I use a wooden dowl or light weight weight bar for about 1/2 focusing on upper body stretches. The rest are pretty standard. Most of the ones I use can be found on web sites, titlest, golf channel, or from a book called golf fit, Cindy something?

I've just started to about 1 month ago after my workouts (four times a week) for about 30 minutes, focusing on some deep chest, back, hip, and hamstring stretches using a stability ball. My big focus is on shoulder and waist turn. I was pretty inflexible about a month ago, but am now seeing good results and an easier golf game. I'd recommend checking out a few yoga videos. I was against it at first (ego) until my wife challenged me to even do one stretch that I couldnt even come close to doing.

Key point here. True flexibility is a state of your body condition, not something you turn on and off for a few hours. Guidance I received from trainers for workout sequence: Do a stationery bike / elliptical session to warm up the body, and then do purposeful movements and light stretching to further loosen up before workout. Save heavy stretching until end of workout, when your muscles are really warmed up.

Then on golf days, purposeful movement (start with chips and putting) and light stretching will get you ready to go.

Focus, connect and follow through!

For those of you who are interested – I find this book very useful.

Real Men Do Yoga by John Capouya (ISBN: 0-7573-0112-6)

It highlights 21 star athletes that do yoga, and it is routine based. That is to say, it shows one how to do yoga without the esoteric stuff.
