Can anyone give my swing a couple tips?

I had this issue for a while, the past year. I found the best thing to think about is slowing the swing down. You be amazed how little distance you loose with the increase in ball striking. Also, work on keeping that spine angle through out the swing, will help stabalize the swing more. Then what i concentrate on is on the backswing that my right hip tucks backwards. Not to the point i loose my torque in the my swing. Then i want the same sensation on the downswing into the follow through. That my weight is getting to my left heel while my left hip is tucking backwards.

A good drill might be to swing with your feet close together, i mean touching. If you do your violent hip slide you will fall over. you will find you have to rotate your hips to do this drill correctly, only take 3/4th shots doing this drill..

Another drill would be to place your feet closer together, about a foot apart, then bring your right foot back and on its toe, then make one arm swings with your left arm only. This will help you get the feeling of being on your right side at impace and the finish. If you slide your hips you will fall over again.

i just think you need to get a little stronger. dont worry, it will come. do you do any strength training at all? maybe some lunges with light weight dumbells (10 - 20 lbs) and some pull ups, dont forget the ab work.

I work out quite a bit. Its mainly just week legs. My arms are very strong and so are my abs and back. But my legs have very little muscle. I can do 20 pull-ups and i do around 200-300 situps a night. And i weigh 150

The only thing I see is those horrible white pants. Great swing though.

Yeah...the pants are pretty brutal. Work on that too, kid.

This... especially the lower body part. This is one reason I don't like looking at a driver swing. There tends to be additional movement to get added power that isn't present in other swings. If you swing like this for your irons, it's going to be difficult to get the consistent ball striking to take it to the next level. Any chance we can get an iron swing video (6-iron)?

I do have some other video's on this computer that I'm trying to find. And I think I'm hitting an 8-iron in it. Also thank you for examining my swing. I think what you said about the left leg might really help. I'm gonna be playing today so I'll try it out on the range for a bit.

I suggest trying to narrow your stance a bit with the driver. You might struggle with weight shift because your feet are too wide apart and it may help with balance...I don't know as I am not a teaching pro, but it might be something to think about. I bet that backwards hat doesn't help either...

Crunches are good, but if you want to truely build strength in the abs, you want to do Planks, Side Planks, or Mountain Climbers. Ab muscles are meant for stability, keeping the body in a good standing postured. Which is required in the golf swing to maintain spine angle. I would switch out a few crunches for those three exercises.

Haha. I do those too. Its only my lower body thats weak.

Well Said! As for the swing, the 3/4 thought that was mentioned earlier was a good one. You'll feel like your swing has shortened quite a bit but in reality, you'll be right at Parallel and much more controlled. Also, being that you are a strong kid, don't feel the need to muscle the ball down the fairway. A smooth, controlled tempo with mechanically sound swing (which you have) will still get the ball going far...actually, you may be surprised with the distance being further if you improved on your tempo.

I've been working on shortening my swing with my irons, and so far I've been hitting it alot straighter. I had a pretty good sized draw/hook that I used to have to play for. My usual miss though is a push. Because of my fast swing I rely alot on feel and timing. But that leads to massive inconsistency on bad days. Do you know any ways that i can take some of that timing out so I can be a little more consistent?

Hey ElTigre, don't worry about getting bigger stronger etc. In High School, I was a good athlete, but I was pretty small 6'3"-6'4" 150 lbs barely. I finally put on the weight and now I'm 6'5" 225. You'll get the strength, just keep working. You have the right attitude.

Your hips are moving laterally too much, you really need to "coil" on the back swing and build up that power, your lower body finish is fine but you could probably hit it farther if you built up more power on the back swing.

I found my tempo that works for my swing, it a slow take away and backswing almost feel slow motion but it helps me make a full turn and for me it easier to find my tempo and I seem to hit the ball more consistently.

I also make sure that I practice my tempo before I play 18 holes and I have pre-shot routine that helps with my tempo and backswing. do not be afraid to try different things to find out what works for your consistency.

I hit wedge shots before the round and this help my set up positions and tempo for the round.

    • Day 120 - Played 18; much better than yesterday. Miss right now is off the heel of the club, so I need to sort that out. 
    • Today we played Pease Golf Course in Portsmouth, NH. Course was in great shape but my game didn't show up. I will say I pitched and chipped fairly well but almost everything else was very hit or miss. Cost myself a lot hitting an in play drive with pulling my approach shots maybe 85% of the time. Finally figured out I had been swaying most of the round. Only took me until 13 to figure it out. Used what felt like a much more centered turn and the ballstriking improved. 18 tomorrow using a 2 man scramble format. Just looking to contribute. Been a blast though. 
    • Day 22: Hit balls with 7-iron using mevo+ to track dispersion. Was out for a long time after work; 86 balls but the first 50+ were 50% swings focusing on top of backswing feel and then just hitting the ball as a psychic reward. Finished with 20 balls close to full speed. Pretty happy with dispersion and also no horrendous misses. I’m chunking my priority piece out into two separate feels, first and more important is the position/balance at top of backswing which is what I was working on. Once I have that engrained I’ll move to transition part. 
    • FWIW I never really had issues with the previous generation of Snells. But… I'm not sure I played them a ton, either.
    • I know Dean Snell designed the original Pro V along with a couple of other brands tour balls.  How exactly does the Snell ball have problems.  Did he change something in the design or is a manufacturing error since he cannot afford the unlimited R&D budgets of the big manufacturers to iron out flaws
