Ok so to get you righties to look at this I had to call it my left arm but since I am a lefty its really my right arm.

Background:
-Typical miss is a push, push slice for the most part but I have yet to eliminate on particular half if you
will.
-Get stuck on the downswing alot, especially with longer clubs (driver is exponentially bad).
-Played baseball and my right arm (left for you righties) is the most dominate hand in the swing.

I noticed that my right arm (again left for you all) is completely locked out at the top of the backswing and on the downswing which I feel is making it tough to get back to the ball with a longer club.

Should I look for more flex in that arm? What are the cons of having a flexed right (left for righy) arm?

Thanks,

Mike

What i can advise it to try to loosen up the arm. And maybe practice at that with a 75% swing. A straight arm is not necisarily going to kill you maybe its a different flaw? Could you perhaps upload a video?

your wrist will naturally hinge and all, but your front elbow shouldnt flex. if you cant keep your front arm straight, then you are doing something else wrong, whether you are not turning back correctly or turning back too far. you should turn your shoulders back, your hips should naturally turn back too (not sway back), and your arms dont really have to move. then on the way down you just kinda come thru. if your arm wants to bend, then you are trying to go back with your arms, but since you arent turning back correctly, they cant go back far enough without bending. hope this helps

you can straighten it out, but you got to have alot of chest and back flexibility to not pull yourself out of your swing. I only do it if its a wide open par 5, and i need about 15 more yards of distance. But most of the time i have a slight bend in the arm in the backswing. But what i think i do is, it straightens on the downswing. But make sure you don't cast the club, so keep the wrist limber, but you can straighten that arm if its on the downswing..

Is it a slight bend, or a pronounced one?

If its a slight bend, its normal, very few can keep their hole arm straight with a full turn, from my experience anyway. But the bend shouldn't be more than a few degrees. At least thats what i've been told by my swing coach.

But like I said, thats only a small bend. If your arm is neding 20-30 degrees or more, then your doing something wrong.

Is it a slight bend, or a pronounced one?

yeah, it´s ok to have a slight "bow" in the left arm, most pro´s do it anyway.

It's not bent at all, itis locked out. Re-read my original post.

Not worried about having TOO much bend, worried not enough.

    • A strong grip cups the wrist (lead) and then it wants to flatten through impact, something I used to be able to avoid to keep it from going left and protecting my forearm (the main premise of my set up). Longer the club, harder it is becoming. Either way, yes, I need to transition to gripping it open.
    • Why don't you grip it "open" so you can return your hand to the place where you're comfortable/not sore, but the ball won't go left? It's effectively weaker… without actually "being" weaker?

    • Idk but I would have to imagine that a putter that is aimed where you think it's aimed would be the most important aspect of a putter
