Worked on some distance wedge work today. Spent most of the time just trying to hit the same launch angle. It is all over the place. Either I overdo it and flight things down to like sub 25 degrees (for a 60 degree wedge), I hit my 30 to 35 degree window, or I just let out all the wrist angle and hit 45 degrees. Let's just say it is very annoying. The random shank decides to show up, yay!

28° or so is good for a LW. Ideally not 30-35°. What balls were you using?

Okay, then yeah, they should be launching at a consistent height. I figured you knew better than to judge it based one even decent range balls.

This is feeling like the club is at P2. To get lower launch angles I have to feel like I’m dragging my hands through impact just delofting the crap out of the club.

This is trying to stop at P2.5. The consistency in launch angle gets worse. Contact gets worse.

trying to go P3, things get more volatile. The more I increase my swing length the more I can’t lower the dynamic loft.

Edit: these are with my 56 degree.

Good range session.

Key points

  1. Controlling my left knee better.
  2. shorter backswing
  3. wrist flex

I still need to get better at turning while doing wrist flex stuff and the lead leg straightening.

Trying to do two things at once is tricky.

Threw my last 9 holes into the Shot Pattern App (negative bad)
Driving: -3.2, Approach: -0.6, Short: -4.5, Putting: -0.1

  1. Good it matches my post round assessment. My intuition was pretty spot on.
  2. I need to get a few range sessions in on the tee shots. Too long, too much right-side bend.
  3. I need to pivot better on my short game shots. Lots of flipping.

Went up to Erie to clean up some stuff with the distance wedges, short game, and driver.

Distance Wedges

  1. Ball forward in stance. Less handle high at set up. Weight more in balls of feet (feels like more in the toes).
  2. Clubhead travels more up than around. Less arm and more pivot turn. Weight/pressure stays on lead foot.
  3. Pivot around left leg. Center of chest goes forward and up. Not back and down.
  4. Hands move down not out, so clubhead can move from the inside out (gets neural path). Don’t pull hands down which causes out to in path and hosel out at ball.
  5. A bit of wrist flexion. Though better path and pivot will help this.

Short Game

  1. Similar to this wedges, ball is forward, except hands are higher at setup.
  2. Pivot with torso, keeping weight forward.
  3. Gravity brings the club back down to the ball. Body just pivot so the center goes forward and up, not back and down.
  4. Be patient on the transition and downswing. Let gravity take over.

Driver

  1. Feel like hands are slowing down at A2. Fast early and put on the brakes. Stay wide with right elbow.
  2. Arms travel down chest, wrist flexion. Send the 10-deg text on the driver at the ground at 45 degree angle to target line.
  3. Wrist flexion should feel like it continues through impact with hands and club exiting out right. Don’t drag hands across body and exit left.

God I hate when golf can’t give me n+1 day of success. Drives me up the wall when my body is, FU!

Im like, ok let’s check the vid. Yep too much turn, arms getting behind me. Ok, I work on that. Get the feel back for a shorter swing. Confirm with video. Then going back to arms down stuff.

Arms down, nope it’s hands out towards the ball. Oh, you get arms down better. Guess what, you don’t get to rotate and you hit 6 inches behind the ball. Yay!

Maybe I should have walked off the range and not wasted my time. I wish there was a body alert system when it’s going to a SOB for the day. 😭

OK rant over, I’ll be back at this tomorrow.
