It's funny, but I have no idea what you're talking about.

/me goes to look.

Ah, okay, now I remember. Yeah, those are good.

Lol. Came across it again as I was re-reading on my flight home this afternoon.

Went out to Kittyhawk today, to the short game area. I did the drill in the "Lowest Score Wins" book, getting the yardages for Quarter, Half, 3/4, and full shots for all my wedges (my three Edel Wedges)

Besides getting some valuable yardage information. I also found this to be a great practice drill to develop feel for different backswing lengths. So if a person is struggling with their backswing length, just work your way up your 52 degree wedge, from quarter to full shots.

My favorite has to be the 3/4th swing location. I was just making GREAT contact with my wedges. The sound from a solid strike is just totally different then what I was doing before.

So after this, I gave the new yardages a test run. I walked to a random location, and lasered the pin. I had 57 yards. So I took my 56 degree, at half swing length and all but one of my balls landed pin high, all of them were safely on the green. If I wanted to hit one close, I should have picked the 50 yard club and had the ball land short and roll forward. Got to think of the roll out, these yardages are carry.

This is one of those things that took me about 2 hours to do, but after I was done and saw how easy it is to pick a club and a swing length. I am just like, why haven't I done this before. It's one of those "DUH" moments.

@CarlSpackler there to get the yardages. If it is in the evening (after 5pm), you can stand under that tree near the practice green and hit shots. Nice shady area. The tree doesn't bother with the trajectory or swing. It was a life saver this afternoon, that sun was a cooker.

I haven't been out there for a few years. Probably why my short game is suffering. It's an excellent place to work. That tree is my friend. ;-) I was actually going to head out there this evening, but the wife talked me into going to the store with her.

@saevel25 are you gonna print out the yardages and tape them to the bottom of the shafts?

I thought about printing them with a label maker and sticking them on my bag tag so I don't have to pull each club to see it yardage. I can just find the yardage on my "grid" and pull the club.

Well if you decide to go out there this weekend let me know. You can use my laser range finder, and I'll just practice my short game while you get the yardages.

Yep, going to do that tonight :-D

I'll definitely be heading out there sometime this weekend. I have a laser gadget, but would welcome the company. Hoping to get in 9 or 18 as well. clubs have been unused for over 10 days.

Just shoot me a PM as to when you are heading over. I think Sunday looks the best with regards to the weather.

Will do. I'm supposed to go to Youngs with the fam today, but hey, they have a driving range and I need to update my MS thread.

Wedges are labelled! I bought some reusable labels, so they wont get too sticky. Then I used some clear packaging tape to cover the label. The yardages are on the under side of the club, so I wont see them when I am standing over the ball at address.

Matt, put them under the grip. You don't need to know what the yardages are before you pull the club, you pull the club based on the trajectory you want, and use that chart to help you determine the swing. Plus, you really won't see any stuff when you address the ball if they're under the grip.

They're the top numbers in that pic...

I haven't really ever charted my partial swing numbers, I just make some practice swings trying to get a feel for how big a backswing I need to hit a certain distance and then go. Like throwing a ball. I should do this though, if for no other reason than to have less decisions to make when I'm faced with a "tweener" wedge shot.

It is eye opening really. It took me about 1.5 to 2 hours. I hit 12 golf balls, the ones I play. I started with shorter and moved to full swing.

Top to bottom,

First # = Shaft Parallel to ground

Second # = Shaft is about between parallel and 90 degrees

Third # = Shaft is 90 degrees

Forth # = Full Swing

Like I said before, I like this as just a practice drill to get use to different swing lengths. When I am on the course, I have lets say 60 yards. Lets say I need to hit it higher. I could take the 60 degree wedge and hit between the 2nd and 3rd number.

    • Things didn’t work out with the cutting horse barn my wife was working for there in Virginia. Their Texas facility we were supposed to move down to ended up delayed for at least an extra year after they’d had us leave Virginia to meet them down there “shortly”. So we ended up getting some land by her family in Missouri and building a house of our own down here instead. Not as many courses, but there is one 5 minutes from the house that’s only $62/mo for both of us to be members at and other nicer ones within a reasonable drive as well.    @Rick_D I’ll try to remember to let you know when I’m heading up that direction. It may happen more frequently in the coming year since a dealer for a business I started recently is based out of St Charles so making deliveries myself might be more economical than shipping.
    • I don’t know why my swing got so vertical there. That wasn’t normal.    What did you mean by point 3? I get the hip turn portion.
    • It is. So, just 2 and 3 above now. 😄
    • Hopefully this one is better
    • Patrick Cantlay's strokes gained from 2024: I wonder if he takes more time on approach shots given that was the worst part of his game last season. And then here are his 2023 stats: Much better ball striking season. I wonder if there are any differences in his times between these two seasons. I tend to think he's just slow in general, but it'd be interesting to see his time differences.
