Hi I was wondering what some of the more popular iron sets are nowadays. Moving from a super game improvement irons TM RAC OS 2 I'm looking at more workable clubs to hit. I was initially interested in titleist 755's but I went to my local golf store only to find that they didnt carry the new titleist sets because they haven't been selling these days. That didn't really hinder my eagerness to test the 755's but it got me thinking if there were any other good clubs to hit. I am currently around a 16-18 handicap golfer but strike the well and consistently. I need to work on my short game, but I figured I can handle a less forgiving club.
I'm looking at the 755's but I also know that Mizuno is very popular and so is the cleveland cg 4. But Im not sure what level the cg4 is for and have no idea which mizuno clubs i should be looking at since their website doesnt help too much. I would also consider another taylormade set since the set i have right now has worked so well for me so far, is the LT set in my range? I need something I could handle right now and learn to hit more precise shots with to get me to a low single digit handicap. Any suggestions with cleveland, mizuno, TM, or Titleist or any other companies.

Try out the 735's you'll probably take a liking to them. I really like my set, more forgiving than my old 990's, but still as workable and just about as much shot feedback. As for the RAC LT's, they're potentially a better fit for you than the 735's, it might be a little shock switching from RAC OS to a smaller forged club head like the 735 . But hey, a friend of mine with about the same handicap as you decided after hitting my 735's, to get fitted for a set and he went from a Ben Hogan OS set, can't remember the exact one BH-5 maybe? They were probably as large as the OS's But I would encourage you to go out and demo some on a range and see what you like the best.
As for popular irons, the set I see most frequently has to be the either the RAC MB's or the Mizuno MP-32's.

If you're coming from the OS2, too, you may like the new r7 TP irons (not the r7 TP MB - the ones that are coming out soon). They're similar to the LT (which you may also like) and offer a little "bump" up the scale in terms of getting you closer to "players" irons.

I just recently purchased the RAC Lt's and couldn't be happier, best investment I've made in my golf game in a long time... (And I've made plenty of investments this year ) Taylormade will take them back and bend them free of charge as well, I had a fantastic experience with their customer service department. With the new irons coming out you can get a really great deal on them too, might be worth looking around; I personally won't have to for quite a few years hopefully...

Just out of curiosity... iacas, do you have any pics of the new R7 TP? Wonder if it will look fairly similar?

Pictures haven't legally been released to the public, so no, I can't share with you the pictures I have... (hence the edit above, too).

But it's ok to see them on TaylorMade's

Japan site , right?

Would it be inappropriate to state that a google search will return results on the club you mentioned previously?

I will say that I prefer the image in the Japan site to what I had found, much nicer looking (still like the Lt's better)...

TaylorMade releases different clubs in Japan. Those aren't the same clubs, no.

So I'm guessing what I originally found with a google search would be more accurate

Too bad, the Japan irons are much nicer looking

o ok so your saying taylormade is coming out with a new set of irons? r7 TP irons? any idea when this will be released?

as black_black mentioned before, the mp-32's, would those fit me as well? So for TM i should look at the new r7 tp irons coming out or maybe even the LT's mizuno- maybe the mp-32's? Titleist- either 755 or 735's any others? im looking to definitely try out a bunch around my skill level at my local store where they have a projector thing they let me hit at.

The

R7 CGB and R7 XD have already been released. Happy hunting.

You have suggested you wish to try the Titleist 735 and 755 irons. Given your handicap, and acknowledging there may be some who disagree, I would suggest you try the Titleist 775CB instead of the 755s or 735s. The 775 offer much more forgiveness than the other Titleist irons, without giving one the impression he is hitting a shovel, like so many other game improvement irons. Good luck in your search.

The

i'm pretty sure the RAC TP Irons Erik mentioned in his post aren't released yet. and those two clubs are not really what i'm looking for. The r7 XD are almost identical to the RAC OS 2 irons i currently have so thatd pretty much be a waste of money

i gotta say this stage of my game is pretty awkward for buying clubs. it seems like there arent any clubs that really fit where i am right now. all the clubs are either really game improvement or for those single digit handicappers. i have a feeling i will meet some trouble hitting some forged blades without the huge sweet spot of my previous OS2 but if i move to like the LT's I probably wont see much of a difference. When I went on TM's website I noticed that the R7 XD's and the RAC OS2 are identical, the CGB is almost the same thing and LT's are i guess slightly smaller head with still a good amount of offset. I'm stuck between like the LT's and the 755's/704's. i'm pretty interested in mizuno but their website doesnt give me much info at all. and the mp-60 as well as the mp-32's, which are musclebacks, may be a little too much for my skill level to handle.

Then take a look at the MX-23's and the MX-900's, those are both great sets for mid to high handicaps. The 900's will be a little more forgiving than the 23's

thanks for the suggestion but i dont think either would really prove to be a step up from the rac os 2's i already have. i think it just comes down to getting a real "players" club and toughing it out or i guess just sticking with the sticks i already have :( just trying to find that set that can really take me to a new level

LT's are i guess slightly smaller head with still a good amount of offset.

I would disagree with saying the Lt has, "a good amount" of offset. It's moderate at best and quite a bit less than your current sticks; you'll notice the difference there. Here are three diagrams from taylormades site, as you can see the lt's have as much (or more) in common with the MB than they do the OS:

Have you read the review on this site of the RAC lt's? This iron is not a game improvement club, IMO it's about as good an intermediate between shovels and blades as you can get. Here's the link: http://thesandtrap.com/archives/club...ons_review.php I wouldn't balk so quickly at the Mizuno MX23's either, my little brother's index is 3.8 and he swears by them, Mizuno's grain flow forging process is supposed to produce some awfully nice club heads. Also, have you considered the Ping i5 or the Cleveland CG4 Tour? I've heard really good things about those irons as well. There's a ton of clubs out there for players trying to make the transition from game improvement to player's sticks, while Titleist makes one of the best, make sure you try as many as you can... -Mike

can anyone compare the forgiveness of the mp-60's, the RAC LT's, the titleist 704's, and the mx-23's?
my guess would be something like
mx-23 > LT's > mp-60's > 704's ?
the mp-60's are supposed to have a slightly increased sweet spot because of their cut muscle tech and i have heard good stuff about the mizuno heads from friends.
