How do you guys tee up for driver and get the correct height first time???

Id like to use just normal wooden tee's as i bought a bulk buy of 500 black tee's off of ebay..
i know you can get these plastic tee's with the correct depth on them, but they look horid at address..
i know what the ball height against the driver should be but always push the tee in too far or not enough...
any tips on a pretty dumb question???

I just use the plastic ones.

half the golf ball should be over the top of the club if you want a rough estimate

I used to have this same problem. What I did was tee the ball to the correct height and then put my index finger on the ground and took a mental note of the height in comparison to my index finger. Now that is just part of my routine. Tee the ball, measure with finger, go through my routine and swing.

Thats a good idea, like i said i know how high the ball has to be against the driver its just teeing it to the correct height first time...i will try that...

Stop using the mats at the range and practice on grass, soon you'll be tee'ing it up at the right height without a second thought

Were not aloud to tee up on grass, all the ranges here are on damm mats and i hate them,lol..id love to practice on grass,im sure my iron play would be much better, the mats are so hard it doesnt give you any realistic feedback...

I use the blue "prolength-plus" tees. I tee it up to where I can just see a bit of the blue above ground level. Works perfectly every time.

I always set my driver up behind the ball WHILE I'm teeing it up in order to get the ball at the correct height.

People give me weird looks, until I hit it down the fairway 280.

In fact, I do the same thing with my hybrids too.

I push it in while holding a golf ball - if my fingers touch the grass, I went too deep.

With the G10 it doesn't really matter. Like tossing a pebble at a barn from 10 feet away - it's pretty hard to miss.

how i learned, just teeing it up so much at the range it became second nature and i can look at it right away and tell if its gonna be the right height for me or not.

I've heard of folks marking their tees with the appropriate depth. If your tees are black, you'll have to get a paint marker since a sharpie wouldn't show up, but that'd be a possibility.

Personally, I just eyeball it. I play on grass ranges so I get practice teeing up there. Even if you can't swing, you could figure measure the height of the ball relative to the driver face when you're at the range, then go to a grassy spot and just practice teeing to that height to get a feel for it.

In the bag:
FT-iQ 10° driver, FT 21° neutral 3H
T-Zoid Forged 15° 3W, MX-23 4-PW
Harmonized 52° GW, Tom Watson 56° SW, X-Forged Vintage 60° LW
White Hot XG #1 Putter, 33"

    • Day 22: mirror work for a while. Working on my elbow in the downswing - keeping it in a better position.
    • Day 36 (16 Dec 25) - continued the exaggerated left foot weight shift trigger adding some easy low flighted pitches with the 5h and a few putting style bump and runs with the 5h as well.
    • Day 442 - 2025-12-16 Got some swings in at an indoor academy a little south of Erie.
    • Has anyone played the new Maxfli forged irons? For the first time in I don't know how many years, they have come out with new clubs. From what I read, Maxfli was bought by Taylor Made a long time ago which then took all of their ball making technology and patents in order to get into that market. The club business was left to whither and the reorganized company, now a part of Dicks / Golfworks / Maltby, is producing these new clubs. (Their Tour X balls which I play are really good.) Anyway, I tried them both out at Golf Galaxy. There's a player's distance iron (XC-3) and a blade (XC-2) and both feel really, really nice, almost "Mizuno-like" in their soft buttery feel and they're a bargain at $800 for a set. I'm planning to ditch my Titleist's and want to go back to a forged iron. I almost pulled the trigger on the Mizuno Pro-245's last summer, but a damaged tendon sheath in my finger combined with a back injury messed up my golf game so I held off. Now the Pro-245's are no longer available, soon to be replaced by the MX-15. (At twice the price of the Maxfli's...that's what got my attention in the first place.) If anyone has played with the new Maxfli's or just tried them out like I did, let me know what you think.
    • Day 126 12-16 Back swing and rotation work today. Didn't hit any balls. Focusing on rotating and getting to lead side.
