ESPN showed a piece over the weekend where a Vegas sportsbook made point spreads for a hypothetical matchup of the top 7 teams in the SEC vs. the top 7 in the Big 10. 1 vs. 1, 2 vs.2, 3 vs. 3 from both conferences, and so on. In all games but one , the SEC would be favored. Even though they appear to be down a little this year, from top to bottom they are far superior to any other conference. Vegas knows. Trust me

The phrase 'far superior' is a bit of a stretch.

Vegas is good, don't get me wrong. But if all we needed was for Vegas to tell us who would win, there would be no need to at the games.

You are right. There are upsets every week in college football. Thats what makes it very interesting . Vegas just gives a fair assessment of who the better team is. It's not foolproof, but is a very good indicator.

Regardless of whether your favorite team hails from the SEC or the Big Ten, I think we can all agree that the Pitt Panthers are horrible.

How so?

That was in reply to the poster that predicted Alabama v. Texas in the BCS title game.

Vegas just gives a fair assessment of who the better team is.

The only thing that a Vegas line does is provide a starting point (that can move frequently) at which the betting on each side will be as equal as possible. Sometimes that correlates to who is better, but don't fool yourself into thinking that the line is there to say that Team A is 6 points better than Team B. Vegas doesn't care one bit who is better or worse, they only care about how they can make the most money of a bet.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

Let's see.....the TV station with $2.25 billion invested in the SEC (which people got fired over BTW), is saying the SEC would win all the games. That is absolutely worthless considering they have a vested interest in the SEC succeeding. Show something that isn't completely bias.

Just saying.

I'm not here to argue SEC vs. Big Ten. Why? Because I care more about my TEAM then my conference. These last few posts prove what I said a few pages back. SEC fans always preach conference dominance. Worry about what YOUR team can do.

Also, I will say again, it's all cyclical. The "top SEC teams won't be the top teams for very long...then they will again. It comes and goes.

Currently the Big Ten has 6 top 25 teams. I'm not counting Nebraska since they're not officially Big Ten yet. The SEC has....6 top 25 teams. Yes, the SEC's are currently ranked higher and yes, I would, as an OSU fan say that as of right now the SEC is a slightly better conference but they're declining and they know it.

I love it when SEC teams lose to lower tier B10 teams such as Florida vs. UM. Just makes my heart feel good like when I eat warm vegetable soup in the winter.

BTW - Conference pride is for fans of s****y teams....period. Good teams can care less how good their conference is. Other schools in the SEC (South Carolina, Kentucky, Miss State, Ole Miss, etc...) just love gravy training the good teams success. And the good teams can't stand it.

Second...but who's counting? It's because we have a newbie who is clearly and SEC honk. Not only that, but Columbia, SC is the home of the team with the most unearned arrogance of any team in the nation....the South Carolina Gamecocks. The team that has never won anything in 115 year history of football. The team that gravy trains teams like Florida and Alabama. The team that is so horrible, that all they can do is talk about their conference. The team who's fans actually drive around with SEC stickers on their cars.

Oh yeah....the team with a barn yard animal as it's mascot. Therefore, it needed to be reiterated.

Oh, I know. I'm just saying, say it one more time and maybe it will get through. I agree with you by the way

Then by all means, for the conference homers, post it again. LOL!

Even when my team is down I don't blame the conference or division they're in. I'm a Buckeye fan first and foremost and they're the only team I follow religiously but I'm also a Cowboys fan, Reds fan, Blue Jackets fan, and Bulls fan. Blech!

I get to hear all about how good the SEC is year in and year out living in Wildcat country. Of course, UK has been on the rise, they've made it to three straight Music City Bowls...

Hahaha. I hear it too. I have friends from all over the South. I feel worse for my friends and fam that for one reason or another have mover to FL, Cali, Texas, SC, Alabama, and Georgia.

LOL

Guys I live in the South...in SEC/ACC country. I hear how great the SEC is all day every day. The sad part us I am hearing it mostly from South Carolina fans. A team that we have absolutely dominated and owned. A team who has contributed nothing to make the SEC a great conference. It gets nauseating.

Oh well. I'll be an Auburn Tiger fan tonight at 7.

Come on now. It takes a special kind of program to employ two of the greatest coaches in college football history and bear the fruits of a combined 70-65 record.

    • I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.
    • Day 542, April 26, 2024 A lesson no-show, no-called (he had the wrong time even though the last text was confirming the time… 😛), so I used 45 minutes or so of that time to get some good work in.
    • Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
    • Oh yea, now I remember reading about you on TMZ!
