After taking lessons last year and re-starting this year, I've found out a few things that are new for me:

1. I'm able to get back to the good place where I was last year.
2. I'm able to use what I learned last year to correct flaws I find as a work out the cobwebs.
3. Checking the 'instruction & tips' subforum right now only serves to put too many extra thoughts in my head and I just have to pretty much ignore it.

Anyone else find that once they have a good thing going, they tend to just shut down add'l new input?

I expect if I get totally stuck, I'll probably be able to go back to this section & search around, or else go back to my pro. Until then though, I'm unable to read golf tips & instruction subforum without concern of over thinking and getting way off course. weird.

I cant really say. But i can say the momment you think you got things figured out, disaster is only around the bend. Complacency will set in, which will lead to frustration that really sets golfers back. I try to keep one simple fact in mind when im practicing or playing or whatever.

Im never going to win.

Whatever im doing now, it what is going on, and i just learn to accept where i am. It doesnt mean you shouldnt strive and work to get better, but if keeping your mind cluttered keeps you always on your gaurd, then it might be a good thing. I dunno.

I don't bother reading the "tips" sections in any golf magazines, much less consider implementing anything therein.

well i like to try to figure things out myself, i think i can get a better understanding of what is wrong. But when i am at my whits end, its time to go see a pro. Which i did and he fixed something i didn't know i was doing. Now i got that down, i am starting to figure out other things as they pop up. Which this forum has helped greatly with.

After taking lessons last year and re-starting this year, I've found out a few things that are new for me:

I'll read tips from players who detail their strategy (e.g. Steve Stricker or Tom Watson in Golf Digest) or the "How to break 100, 90, 80," and "Power hitter" "straight hitter" tips in Golf Magazine, but those related mostly to course management.

Internet tips posted by amateurs (like me) are risky.

I look for anything interesting, but I don't change my swing based on what Golf Digest tells me. Mostly I look for short game tips and, like Sean_Miller, course management stuff.
