And no, you don't get any credit for pointing out that Arnold Palmer - used as a "good" example - shifted his "front spine angle" 400%. That's too easy.

One thing that I noticed (perhaps trivial) is the overestimation of spine angle change for Tiger, and the underestimation of spine angle for their ideal player shown later in the video. I'm sure this is not what you were looking for.

The guy in the video is basically arguing against a hip slide which is bullshit because even the person in the video he showed bumps his hips.

Essentially the old adage of "keep your head down" is true but not in the way that many think.

When you address the ball you are leaning forward. When you impact the ball you are not leaning forward as much as you are tilting backwards. The reason for this is pretty simple. See this video:



If you look at the hips in the backswing the hips go from level to left low and right high. This happens when the left knee bends and right knee straightens. Don't believe me, stand up in front of a mirror and make a backswing with a bent left knee and a straight right leg and notice the change in your hips.

Every good golfer in history, to my knowledge anyways, has the exact opposite situation at impact. The left hip is now high and the right hip is now low the right knee is now bent and left leg is now straight obviously.

The million dollar move which most people never figure out is the bump.

The purpose of the bump is to tilt the spine to prepare the golfer to move to the ball in such a way that will get the left hip high and the right hip low. This is the mechanism that clears the body for full steam ahead knock the shit out of it. If you don't have his move you are going to have all types of problems.

First of all, Arnold Palmer was not known as a very accurate player, was he? If that is true, it seems ludacris to use him as a model. Not only that, but this guy is lying to himself if he thinks Arnold doesn't have a hip bump in his downswing, he clearly does.

How are you supposed to have something solid to rotate around on the downswing if you don't shift your weight to the left(unless your weight is already on your left side, ala stack and tilt)? Every golfer in this video bumps their hips to some degree.

His model golfer clearly has a hip bump as well, and the line he has drawn as his model golfers spine angle isn't even accurate, it's off by a few degrees. Both things remove more credibility from his theory.

His notion that modern golfers are taught to keep their weight behind the ball is also erronous, it's simply not true. Sure, many instructors advocate more weight on the right side at setup with the dirver, but at impact, they still advocate weight on the left side.

He also talks about how starting the downswing with a hip bump increases the spine angle, which then leads to an open clubface. While this may be true, most pro golfers, Tiger included, swing in to out as it is, they can still hit their push-draw with that position.

His Tiger vs. Iron Byron comparison is laughable.

Axis tilt is necessary for an inside path to the ball.

Equipment, Setup, Finish, Balance, and Relax. All equal in importance and all dependent on each other. They are the cornerstones of a good golf swing.


Besides his pronunciation, the production, the smoking driver head, or claiming Palmer was so great for winning so much when Tiger has won twice as many majors?

I can't say for sure, but what I saw was essentially it said to turn your hips, as opposed to sliding them, which is BS. Iron Byron is a machine, it doesn't have hips. It's all arm swing. Tiger is a man, not a machine, and he has to clear his hips or he's going to block it or come way over it, or all sorts of terrible stuff. When you turn your hips instead of slide them, you basically torque your body, lose balance, and have to compensate to get to the ball.

So they guy is saying that moving the hips is either a) bad or b) bad without moving the head along with it? Also, a lot of the lines he drew seemed sort of arbitrary. He drew some through the head and some next the the head, likely to exaggerate to prove his point.

I'm somewhat disappointed that nobody's used the term "impact fix" yet.

The thing that annoyed me the most - perhaps - was his bizarre assertion that when you push the hips forward the clubface contorts into some bizarre 30° open or closed position. The guy needs to read up on TGM 7-8.
