I am so motivated to get in front of everyone so I will not have my pace of play held up that I go from the car the the tee in under 5 minutes. Caveat; I never have a tee time, I just go to the course.

Wow, that's verbatim for my warm-up, too.

I always stretch before I tee off, and I always putt for at least a few minutes unless there is a schedule that I'm behind on. I often play as a single, so I don't know what my tee time is when I get to the course. If I have an hour, I will start by chipping, then go to the range and work through my gap wedge, 7, 4, 3W, Driver, and then go putt while I wait to be called to the tee.

I really like the idea of limiting the range warm up to very few balls, and I think I will try that next time.

I hit about 70 balls going through about 1/2 the clubs, then chip and putt, then play. In an ideal world (like before a tournament). Sometimes I am lacing my shoes after my first drive.

I prefer to hit about 40 balls before a round... but if there is no range... I focus on putting and loosening myself up. When I DO have range time... I like to hit:

Pitching Wedge
5 Iron
18* Hybrid
3 Wood
Driver

Most of the courses I play don't allow chipping to the practice greens. If I'm playing a course that does... I like to spend a few minutes just evaluating my short game, as well.

If I can hit before starting, I will. PW, 6, Driver. Leave 10 minutes for the putting green then bon voyage.

Stretch.

I stretch a little... probably need to do more.
Start with the 7 because its my comfortable club
SW/LW next because they save my game and if they're off i need to fix them on the range
3W/Driver

If i'm feeling like i have a good swing going then i'll throw in a 4i because that is my arch nemesis club. Hybrid is money all the time but i like to get one practice shot in before i head out.

Usually dont get much time to putt, but i'll sneak 2 quick ones in and then off i go to shoot my 120s! haha

Not sure if it's mental with me or not but if I don't hit the range before a round I feel like I'm not into the round and it takes 2-3 holes for me to feel comfortable. Because my swing is not as consistent as it needs to be, I have no idea how my swing is going that day so when I step up to my first iron shot I feel shaky.

I usualy just hit a buckt or so just to warm up the major muslces in your body... this will prevent injuries and bad shots for the off. Also it depends on the person.. i perfer to hit balls and losen up but my dad can just go out without any warmup and shoot level par, its purely preference!!

Great question because I've been struggling with what to do lately. About 5 years ago I committed to becoming better, so part of that was showing up at least 45 min before a tee time to hit balls etc. So that went well as I was committed to it all summer.

Then, life kept happening, and showing up that early wasn't always possible. So just this April, as weather became nice enough to golf here in Rochester, I played 4 rounds. The first two I didn't go near the range, and shot decent. The third I ranged, and shot awful, and the fourth, no range, awful again.

More proof it is a mental game I guess.

I have actually felt like I perform better when I don't hit the range because then I focus more on simplifying, having one swing thought, because I know I'm not fully warmed up.

Oh well.

My swing isn't good enough that I can just jump out of the car and nail my first drive. I really need to hit a few balls to get myself in sync. My problem is my home course has a really short range and I can't hit anything longer than a 7-iron. Recently I have been keeping a couple practice wiffle balls in my bag and I will hit those with my driver into a net that's on the side of the range. It's not as good as hitting a real ball but it helps. I finish with about 10 minutes of putting practice.

If I am playing a quick 9 after work I will just stretch and do some putting, practice swings.

If it is a full 18 on the weekend I will do the following on the range...

Stretching and swinging with PW
Hit 40 balls with clubs in this order PW/6i/4i/3W/Driver
To finish some chipping and putting on the practice green

I feel like your Pre-Round Routine should be just to get the feel and blood flowing in your golf muscles...as I have heard many Pros' say that they stripped it on the range this morning but played like crap or I have heard them say I hit it terrible on the range and played great...so to my point I think your Pre-Round Routine is not the time to evaulate your swing...that is what practice, practice and practice is for...so with all that said my Pre-Round Routine is as follows:

Try to arrrive an hour before hand to make sure I get checked in, get shoes on, get bag on cart etc...so I have 40-45 minuntes to perfom the following:

1) Putting (15 min) - Start off with two balls and just hit longer putts to get the feel of the green...I do this long enough to feel like I have the speed...then I find a hole and hit a bunch of four footers doing the between the tees drill...this gets my putter tracking correctly on short putts and builds confidence as I consistently hear the ball going in the hole

2) Chipping (15 min) - I start off with three balls and hit shorter chips and work on finding my feel for the shot and also seeing how the ball will roll out on the greens that day...then I will hit various chips and pitches to start to warm up the golf muscles

3) Range (15 min before round starts) - I always start with a 6 or 7 iron because all I am trying to do here is find my tempo and sequence to my swing...I find mid-irons work best for this when staring out hitting balls at the range (I even do this when practicing)...I could hit 10-30 balls working again on tempo. Then I will hit the next 5-10 balls with the club I am going to hit on the first tee...I will go through my Pre-Shot Routnine with each shot so to get myself comfortable with my rountine in anticpation of the first shot of the day that counts.

I just find this Pre-Round Routine works best for me and usually puts me in a good mind set going to the course that I am warmed up regardless of how I performed at each station...but to each his own as you have to find what works for you...

Wilson Staff - Ci11, 3-SW, TX Fligthed, stiff

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
