Driver - approx 250yds
1-4 Hybrids - 220, 205, 190, 180yds
5-pw (47*) Irons - 170-120yds
54* & 60* Wedges - 60* goes 50yds and under
Putter

I do not bomb my driver although it has climbed from 230 to approx. 250 since I started back up this year. I leave most of my strokes around the green. I am a big fan of hybrids, as i hit them well from all lies (compared to the 3w I use to have and could not hit from the fairway) thus looking into a 13* (1h). I already have a 60* and figured the 54 would fill the gap best.

So, do you think the 54* would fill the gap well enough or should I consider dropping a hybrid to add two wedges? Also do those yardages look alright?

First thought... do you really want to use the 1 and 2 hybrid? Those are hard as heck to hit IMHO, especially 13*. Try driver, 4W, 3h, and then the rest. That way you could go 47* 52* 56* and 60* with the wedges. A lot of amateurs can probably hit a 4W further than a 3W anyway (esp. off the deck)

I love my 2 hybrid, so i figured i would give the 1 a shot. But I was thinking of the 4 wedge route since i am not good on the approach. The reason i believe I had a problem with my fairway woods before was because they were on the big side, with a large face. The club would bounce with the slightest touch to the ground. I have no idea what 3 or 4w to try, any suggestions?

I'm like you, I love my hybrids, but I love my woods better ......... 3w and 5w , 15* and 18* easy to hit once you learn how, with that said, it's up to you and what you feel is right for you ........ if the 1 and 2 HY works, than use it and enjoy the game

    • Day 36: back to some mirror work tonight. Need a bit more forearm roll in my feels to help with the shallowing.
    • _sigh_ so close to red text.  Went away for three days, but didn't do a practice morning-of-departure (Friday) nor evening-of-return (Sunday), so I had three misses, back to day one. Day 1, May 4 2026.  At home today, spent nearly an hour in my practice room, hitting about three dozen practice balls, primarily with my 6-iron.
    • Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.
    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
    • I haven't been able to practice like I wanted and won't for the next week.  1. The weather sucks in Ohio this year. I have been mostly inside hitting foam balls. Just kind of my basic stuff.  2. I woke up last Saturday with a left side rib muscle on fire. If I turned or leaned a certain way it would spasm that almost buckled my knees. I have been taking a break to let that settle. I don't want to get a long term injury. I think I pinched a nerve or just aggravated a muscles.   3. I am going on a mini-vacation to Florida (screw you Ohio weather) with a friend, and rolling that into a work conference I have next week. I will be with out my clubs for a week.  I will be back next in two Fridays to hit the ground running with some warmer temps and better weather in Ohio, hopefully. I would really like to get more out on the course and the range.
