So, i've made up my mind to go take several lessons, perhaps, 1 every 2 weeks or so over the next couple of months to help my game. I live right outside nyc, and there is a golf school in nj that is about an hour away with a grass range where they teach (there are closer courses with teaching pros, but they teach off mats and i would rather hit off of grass while i have a teacher). The question that I have is they allow you to choose the instructor and the prices range from $100/hr upwards of $200/hr for the head guru. For this weekend i have a choice between a $100/hr instructor vs a $150/hr instructor. The $150/hr guy has an impressive resume with over 16 years experience whereas the lower priced guy has only about a half dozen years experience. Obviously, money is an issue, so I guess my question is, for the extra $50 an hour, would the more experienced guy add that much more value? I wouldn't mind trying him once if there could be a measurable benefit from his years of experience. or do you think at my handicap, that the cheaper guy would help my game as much? thanks and yes, perhaps this is a silly question.

Most useful training aids (for me) that I use: Tour Striker Pro 7 Iron, Swingyde, Tour Sticks alignment sticks, Dave Pelz Putting Tutor

$100-150 an hour? I would expect my swing to be magically fixed with those prices.

$100/hour seems to be the norm in the nyc area.............unfortunately.

i dont know but man thats alot of money for a single lesson. I think its cheaper for one hour class at harvard. lol

Most of the Ivy League and top schools offer lectures free as podcasts now, so it is way cheaper

Yeah, with prices like that, I think online lessons, where you send your video in, can capitalize, if it's not already.

$100 to $150 is not that outrageous. The cost of living in NYC is higher too. Secretaries make more in NYC than college professors in rural areas... (or whatever).

Have you seen our instructor quiz? I wonder if either of them could pass.

Ginger or MaryAnn? I won't address the costs since that is relevant only to you right now, and if you're fine with the rate then it doesn't matter. What does matter is which instructor will you mesh with the best, or if not mesh then which one will lead you best toward your goals. I'll suggest talking with them, visiting where they teach and watch them with others, try to figure out which one would work for you individually. Years in the industry is almost secondary as long as their competancy is there. Beyond that it comes down to which one would work out for you.

And now I want to go find that instructor test just to see what's on it since I might be looking for instruction as well.
