Somebody in the UK is sure not happy about Trump's so-called "world's greatest golf course".

Damage estimated at more than £50,000 has been caused by vandals at the site of US tycoon Donald Trump's planned £1bn golf resort. Vehicles working at Menie in Aberdeenshire were damaged and marram grass and fencing was ripped out. The Trump Organisation said the vandalism would have "no impact" on the progress of the venture. Spokesperson Sarah Malone told the BBC Scotland news website it was now a matter for Grampian Police. Mr Trump's controversial plans to create "the world's greatest golf course" have divided opinion for several years.

Can't say I've followed this story beyond the headlines, but how big of an ass must Trump be to shove his hyperbolic "world's greatest course" baloney down the throats of the Scots?

Last I checked, they were rather (and rightly) proud of their more historic tracks.

Well he's not a darling here in the US and a lot of us hate his guts, what more for the Scots?

OK, I'm curious here and maybe someone with a little more knowledge can shed some light on this????

Trump is trump - every course he owns is the best course in the world.......every woman he marries is the hottest, and everything he does is the best in his mind.....this is the arrogance of the Donald, but this is no news to anyone.....

What's the big deal? If you don't like his course, then don't go. Did he buy land that was once some ancient burial ground or something? Please help me out here.

It's (I believe) officially designated as "an area of outstanding natural beauty" with a lot of interesting wildlife. Trump seems to think he can do what he wants just because he has money. I think he wants to build a load of housing there as well.

A lot of local people believe (probably quite rightly?) that planning permission was awarded in a somewhat dodgy fashion without due consultation and consideration of all the evidence.

All I know is, if someone wanted to build a trillion dollar golf course in my backyard, I'd be pumped. Especially someone who demands perfection like Donald Trump.

Put yourself in the shoes of a Scotsman (or woman) and I suspect you'd see it differently. The cultural divide is often small, but sometimes large. Can't speak for the Scots, but to me Trump is the very embodiment of the "ugly American."
