For me, the quote would be opposite. "I'm a musician, but I also play on a golf course." My golf and music handicap would be opposites, in golf I'm a 7, in music, a +7. Not bad stuff, though I can't profess to know much about this modern stuff. Most of the guys I've worked with left the charts and airwaves 25 years ago, and that's pretty much the guys I prefer, but I'm actually flirting with the idea of trying the newer music out.

As to what I can tell you? I'm only listening on old Sony monitors, but it sounds like the acoustic guitar was recorded too hot, you're like 1-2dB hotter than you ideally want (mixed fine, but the preamp is bordering on breaking up). Drums were also recorded in a room with parallel walls, and you can hear some phase inconsistency. I always record drums in a room with no parallel surfaces because it allows you to place mics at different angles without much in the way of phase issues. When it comes to drums, less mics are always better. I do 2 large diaphragm overheads and add as little as possible from there. That's all I can really think of, but if you have any other questions or need anything, let me know.

Thanks for checking it out guys...and no, I'm not the one with the stash. Thats the drummer, he's recently shaved it off and looks like he's back in high school. As far as the recording, we recorded it in my basement and then worked with a producer of a recording studio, who mastered/mixed it.

It amazes me how much better home recording has gotten in the last decade alone. We have an old portastudio from the 70s, and it's more of a display item than a working model, but it's so bulky and massive. For just 8 tracks, it weighs over a hundred pounds. I have a little unit I use for portable recording, and it's 2.5 lbs, 8 track, 16 bit, 44.1kHz. That's amazing. I've used it to record live bands, and I can actually use the inserts on the board to patch into it, and record the different instruments!

Still though, here's a protip. When you go to record your drummer again, get a big felt panel, or some other item (mattresses work too, so do blankets hung up), and place it in front of the drums, at a 20° angle. Then get another, and hang it to the left of the drums, again at a 20° angle. Now you should have no two walls that face eachother. You still have a ceiling to contend with, but at least you've now got a clean room to work with. That helps keep things from sounding so phasey and resonant.
