It is more than normal, but the gap in degrees doesn't matter as much as how far you hit the ball. There is no norm that has to be followed, nothing is "correct", you put together the bag the way that works best for your game.

Thank you, Zeph ....... I was thinking pretty much the same thing, my 9i is 40* and PW 48* the most I've ever had between the two irons is 6* until now

Are the clubs from different sets by the way? With a 40º 9i, I would assume the normal PW would be 45º.

looking at hi signature, he has a volkey PW and a set of g15 irons.

My irons from last year were 4-pw with the PW being 45 degrees and my next club was a Gap wedge that wa 52 degree's. I can tell you that this left me a pretty big gap in my yardages. My pitching wedge was about a 110 carry, 115-120 total roll club. and my gap wedge was a 90-100 carry with almost no roll. This meant that to hit a 100 yard shot I had to take a very aggressive swing with a gap wedge (small face, muscle back design) or hit a pitching wedge at 90% (which is a very difficult thing to do) For this years set, I am carrying the gap wedge that was designed to accompany the set and my pitching wedge is 48 and the game wedge is 53, and then I carry a sand wedge at 56. I can tell you the 53 degree gap wedge (being a perimeter weighted GI iron) gives me ALOT more confidence when I need to hit that 100 yard shot.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

Is it wider than normal? Yes. It is really an issue? Depends on how you hit each club. If you feel comfortable hitting the gaps in between full swings but choking down or partial swings then there's no issue. It's all up to how good you feel about it.

What is your distance gap between 8-9 and 9-PW?

I'm having the other problem, and need to have my lofts checked. I've got about a 30 yard gap from my PW to my 52, and I'd really like the 52 to play a bit stronger.

Is 8 degrees an acceptable difference between a 9i and PW ? or is this too much of a gap?

As others have said....yes it is a large gap but you can make the right adjustments where it shouldn't be that bi a deal. I wouldn't do it but that's just me, I'm also a 13HC'er and have my own issues to deal with (chipping and putting). Not to be a jerk....but you're a 3 HC. I've never met a 3HC'er that couldn't figure that one out for himself.....

Yes, and the Ping 9i is 40º but I use a Vokey 48º for PW gives me better control at 115 yards and in, and yes the Ping PW is 45º, again thanks for the help Zeph, in the end it wasn't as bad as I thought it is was going to be, I just had to adjust for the 2 degree difference from my old set

8i to 9i is 10 yards, 9i to PW is also 10 yards, however this can very if I need it to by 5 yards

No problem, it's just that I've never had an 8 degree gap between these two clubs before, at most it's been 6 degrees or lower, and to me 2 degrees is a lot considering I like to land a wedge within 10 feet of my target since I play in tournaments and side bet club members for cash during the week

Ahhhhhh.....gotcha!! It is a different world between a 13HC'er and a 3HC'er!!! Me??...I just try to get it on the dance floor!! I'm not good enough YET to narrow it down to 10 feet!!
