I've been playing with standards for over 2 years, just got fitted for some Callaways and ended up needing +2* upright. I hit 10 consecutive swings on the lie board all at the toe. My miss is a hook with my current clubs, never had an issue with slicing. Ever. I need to hit my current clubs off a lie board and check to see if it's the same. I'm kind of worried now, if it is more upright won't I pull the ball more??

Um, no, the opposite. If it's on the toe, you need an upright club, and vice versa.

thanks all. =) im gonaa try the electrical tape thingy. would it work the same at a range? with hard mats?

The thing is though it can change if you tweak your swing at all. I tweaked mine a little and now I am standard lie, so I dont need any bends. Got fitted twice with same results.

It doesn't change as much as you think it does. Impact is pretty much always going to be your arms extended and parallel with the club, and the hands leading the club by a certain amount. You can change your lie angle a bit, but you'd be hard pressed to change it a lot.

It depends on the manufacturer. My current clubs are standard, my last set was 2º upright. Funny thing is, they are within .5º on each club, some are the same. From my research, the standard has gone upright a bit in the last 10 years or so.

Yea, i had the same thing. My nike slingshot irons are set at 2 inches longer and 2 degrees up right and my tourstages are 3 inches longer and 4 degrees upright. Weird how it works

Not really, Nikes are about 1° upright compared to other brands. Just keep in mind there is no "standard" lie, length, or loft for any club in the bag.

yea thats probably correct to an extent. I was thinking about how I needed two degrees flat for that first fitting and being 5'9 I probably have my hands hung to low at the address and then I follow that plane when I swing so I was watching some lessons on proper position at address and sure enough my hands were low causing me to be flat. I fixed it which was very easy actually and I follow that plane now which feels slightly more upright and onplane and more natural. Got fitted twice at two different places after working with it and found Im standard lie now.

    • Day 36: back to some mirror work tonight. Need a bit more forearm roll in my feels to help with the shallowing.
    • _sigh_ so close to red text.  Went away for three days, but didn't do a practice morning-of-departure (Friday) nor evening-of-return (Sunday), so I had three misses, back to day one. Day 1, May 4 2026.  At home today, spent nearly an hour in my practice room, hitting about three dozen practice balls, primarily with my 6-iron.
    • Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.
    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
    • I haven't been able to practice like I wanted and won't for the next week.  1. The weather sucks in Ohio this year. I have been mostly inside hitting foam balls. Just kind of my basic stuff.  2. I woke up last Saturday with a left side rib muscle on fire. If I turned or leaned a certain way it would spasm that almost buckled my knees. I have been taking a break to let that settle. I don't want to get a long term injury. I think I pinched a nerve or just aggravated a muscles.   3. I am going on a mini-vacation to Florida (screw you Ohio weather) with a friend, and rolling that into a work conference I have next week. I will be with out my clubs for a week.  I will be back next in two Fridays to hit the ground running with some warmer temps and better weather in Ohio, hopefully. I would really like to get more out on the course and the range.
