  1. 1. Which finish do you prefer on your wedges?

    • Tour chrome
      80
    • Black nickel
      33
    • Oil can
      81

Mine are the tour chrome finish. You can't go wrong with the great matte silver finish, and you can see very precisely where you hit the ball every time with the grass on the chrome. Great purchase!

Good luck,
Ryan

I always love the RAW....Im actually looking forward the the new TVD grind ...does anybody know if or when it is coming out...Thanks

I use an oil can vokey 56, but I have a tour chrome on the 52 and 48 that I carry. I tend not to want the 52 and 48 to spin as much, which would happen with the raw metal that oil cans end up as, but the 56 can spin all it wants..lol. I rarely use that club outside of 70 yards.

My SM Chome wedges have turned goldish with the blemished (sweet spot and sole) which i'm not too keen on. Won't be getting that finish again.

Anyone else get the gold effect - wanted or not?

but couldn't decide which finish to get them in. I eventually decided on the classic tour chrome finish, but was wondering what everyone else out there prefers and plays.....

The oil cans look about 30 years old after 3 months and the Tour Chrome wears off and the face rusts anyway, so who cares?

If I tried to sell my 60 degree now and said it was less than a year old nobody would believe me. They are brilliant wedges, whatever finish you choose. I would go for oil can because you do get a bit of reflection on the TC finish.

I have the copper spin-milled 56, and the tour chrome 52. Seems like they are a bit different in shape for some reason. I like them both however, really starting to hit some good shots with them, and this has been a historically weak part of my game. Man they spin though!

If I were paying full price, I'd go for the tour chrome. They last longer, and they're shinier, so it makes you feel like your really buying something neat-o. Having said that, I bought a used vokey 52/8 with the oil can finish at golf galaxy yesterday for $30, just to try it out. It feels really great when you hit it, but it's an older 200 series model with a sharper trailing edge on the bounce. That was definitely noticeable in the feel department compared to my tour grind wedges I typically use. I've heard varying results on the improved spin and feel of the oil-can finishes. I think the most important thing is that when you stand over the shot, you like looking down at the wedge. That's going to affect the outcome much more than a couple hundred RPMs of spin.

I enjoy my oil cans, which I eventually stripped overnight with vineagar and put them through a gun blueing process. The gun blue only lasted a few rounds and requires a great deal of care, the wedges are now a vintage greyish/ brown which I actually really enjoy.

I self stamped them for some reason, because I'm on the tour and all. Honestly I do all of this work on my wedges, constantly cleaning and regrooving, switching paintfills, to keep myself from purchasing any new wedges. Just keeps me busy!

I'm sorry but I go for the looks hehehe. Chrome looks beautiful, and black its kind of kinky next to your other clubs in the bag (and helps to get the right club easier when you missplace them in your bag). I hate the oil can finish, it just seems horrendous to my taste.

Cheers

I like Oil Can, I bought a cheap Dunlop SW with a lovely brown finish. Imagine my horror when half of the club had turned silver after my first 2-hour practice session on rain-wet turf at the practice pitching green with it! I had no idea about the oil can finish. I never thought the brown would wear away so quickly, I thought it was permanent. I bought a LW to match it and now that I understand about the finish I like them both. Neither one has any rust whatsoever - just an interesting blend of brown and silver where the finish has and has not been worn. I look forward to buying better oil can finished wedges next year, either Vokey or Cleveland.

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
