Hey guys,

I'm considering getting either the Taylor MAde Burner Driver (08 model)

http://www.rockbottomgolf.com/taylor...er-driver.html

or the Calloway Big Bertha Diablo

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...f=ord_cart_shr

2 questions:
1) Any reviews/comments about either of these drivers?
2) Is there a good way to test both of these drivers? Didn't really want to go to a PGA Superstore and test them when I have no intention of buying them there...is that frowned upon? Any opinions?

Thanks,
Ryan

I have an '08 Burner. It's long, forgiving, low to mid spin, mid trajectory for me. The long stock shaft was a little much when I was having a bad day, I put a 65X Pershing in mine and it made it more controllable...although a little shorter now.

Why would it be frowned upon? Don't take a new one off the shelf, remove the wrapping, and hit it; but it's OK to use the demo or used ones at most stores. Ask if they'll let you get some launch monitor readings to think about before making the purchase.

TM drives aren't for me, but go with what works for you.

I don't know...I guess I was thinking they let people use their launch monitor in order to sell them clubs.

Really, I just don't like dealing with salesmen when I'm not interested in buying something.

I can comment on the Burner. It's really forgiving and I love the head, but the shaft is really light and high trajectory. Those Burners put a premium on distance over control, so if that's your thing, Burner is probably a good choice. After about 6 months of using it with the stock Re-ax shaft I'm getting a heavier, higher kickpoint shaft in there for better control.

That is the main purpose of the launch monitor, but tell them you know which clubs you're considering, but want some readout data to think about before committing. And then ask if you can use the launch monitor. I've done this several times at various stores. Sometimes I buy from the store with the launch monitor, sometimes I find a better price elsewhere. But I don't think using the launch monitor obligates you to purchase from them, that day.

I test hit the Diablo driver a few months ago, and it didn't do anything my Hyper X-Tour can't do if I swing it properly. If you're getting into Callaway, the Diablo might be interesting - if you're already in, ho-hum!

You might give the Hyper X and Hyper X Tour drivers a test. They're down to $150 in some places.

yeah I got the hyper x tour for $70, and it is way better than my diablo 3 wood(but the diablo is probably the cooliest club ever)

I personally prefer the feel and sound of the Diablo compared to the Burner. I hit them pretty much the same when I was in the market last year. I ended up getting a hardly used Nickent 4dx with interchangeable shafts and LOVE it!
