Hi. I am interested in buying a set of these irons. I have a set of slazenger SGI irons right now with a uniflex shaft, but with my height, and swing speed, the shafts are flexing waaaay too much and torqueing a little bit. I was on the range with my pro the other day, and he had me hit a set of taylormade burner irons, which I was consistently hitting straight and long. He offered to sell me his pi7's for $100, which appears to be a good deal. I just want to make sure these irons don't have any negative feedback on them before I bite the bullet. Google searching brings up very little about these, and more about the Ci7 or Di9. Anyone have an opinion either way? And yes, I know they are for a lower handicapper, but my long game isn't really reflective of that. I am a consitent ball striker, I just have difficulties in putting and pitching.

I would go with the TM's. I researched the Pi7's before purchasing my Di7's and can tell you they are not for the faint of heart. I love my Di7's. If I didn't pick these up early last year, there is no question I would own the new Ci9's. Love their look. All of the Wilson Staff's need to be regripped however. The stock grips are horrible. Once you take care of that, excellent clubs. Most underrated out there.

For $100 and it was me, I'd buy them and slowly work them into my bag. Just like I did with my PI5s.

Pi7's are lovely clubs, there's a 6i demo down at my range.

Very small clubhead (that's what i thought anyway) i wouldn't advise them for you as they're really meant for better ballstrikers.

I wouldn't call these small, just normal .... but maybe smaller than average and they are a lot easier to handle than the new musscle back FG-Tour (which is actually the Pi-9).

At $100 your chance of becomming a better ballstriker !

I have a set of Pi7s. I don't use them as my regular set of irons, but they are good equipment. Probably the biggest question for you is what type of shafts you prefer. The Dynamic Gold shafts on the Pi7s are a little heavier and have a lower trajectory than many other shafts. The benefit is better accuracy.
The Pi7s are cast stainless clubs and do not have the same feel as a forged blade, but the clubhead is a little larger than most blades.
Heck, if you don't like the Pi7s, you can probably get $100 on a trade in for the Burners.

I'd say go for it. For $100, can't go wrong. If you have trouble hitting them, take a couple lessons. $100 + a couple lessons = less than the cost of the Burners. If you would rather have the Burners, you might be able to get a deal at, say, www.taylormadegolfpreowned.com .

I have Di7s and Pi7s, hands down I like the Pis better. They work better for my swing (I'm a picker of the ball and I was looking for a lower ball flight), for $100 I would try them you should be able to resell them for more if they don't fit you. I played my last set of irons for 15 years, I'm thinking these will get played just as long or longer by me, I really like them. I keep the Dis around in case someone visits without there clubs.

Thanks so much for the input guys. I went out and hit these at the range the other day, and absolutely love them. The burners I hit were another member's, so I really was only usin them for a bit of a reference. That said, I was mug longer and much more consistent with these irons than my spaghetti shafted slazenger. I'd say 7/10 were within a 10 yard circle, with the other three being tops, as I am used to hitting a bit longer club since my old ones had been 1" extended. They had a nice, lower draw ball flight. I'm hooked!

It's nice to see another Wilson fan on the forum. I started playing wilson staff (1972) model clubs when i was around 13 years old. They were given to me by a guy that owned a rewashed golf ball shop in my town. I would go by the shop on my bike, help him sort golf balls and hang out. One day he saw my clubs and how crappy they were (Jack Nicklaus Macregor) from JC Penney's I think. He said you need to use these Wilsons and I did for over 15 years. Then my car was stolen with my clubs in the trunk and i was able to replace them with new Staffs FG 57s. I think that playing the Staff blades early in my career help me a great deal with honing my swing.

I played those until a couple of years ago when I read some positive reviews for the Wilson PI5 irons. I decided that now that i was in my forties, that it was time to give myself a break and play a CLUB WITH MORE FOREGIVENESS. Since playing with the PI5's (only 2 years) i have had an eagle on a par 4 (with an 8 iron) a hole in one where i won a boat in a scramble tournament (8 IRON AGAIN) HIT THE PIN WITH AN 8 IRON LAST saturday, AND FINALLY hit the flag with a 5 iron sunday! Is this just a coincidence? I'll let you decide.

They're good sticks...and for $100 bucks a bargain.

Another Wilson irons fan here... Wilson Staff RM's in the bag since 1994.... yep, that long. Still great forged feel after many years. What was described as "midsize" back in the day, is now just a normal sized iron...

I'll tell you there is a bigger coincidence than that, here. My clubs were stolen from the back seat of my locked truck about 6 weeks ago. Luckily, they were recovered around a week later outside a dope house that was being patrolled. The detective saw the Under Armour logo on my bag and when he checked the clubs, they matched the description I gave.

    • So excited you made it out! I live in Portland and go most springs. If you liked Sheep's Ranch you ain't seen nothing yet. It's incredibly picturesque and with a 2 club wind it's not a cake walk. But as far as the quality of the course in terms of challenge and interest, in my opinion it's easily the worst on the property! Also, Old Mac started as my least favorite (this was before Sheep's Ranch opened). But I listened to the fried egg podcast about it and read through Doak's descriptions and it totally changed my perspective. Now it's fighting for top spot. So excited for you!
