(spin-off from old thread Caddy or Cart )

Heading to Portland in a couple weeks to play at my brother-in-law's country club for a couple days. And I will finally get to play 36 holes for the first time. Totally looking forward to it.

The course is pretty flat. And I prefer to walk/carry for 18. But I'd rather not set myself up to be fatigued during the 2nd round.

So, which would you recommend???

:edit 36 holes in one day.

In my bag:

One for slicing
One for hooking
One for knocking it in the cup

I have never had a caddy before, if its a long course i would ride, especially if your playing 36 holes in on day. You could always walk the first 18 and ride the 2nd. But the legs are what keep you consistant in the golf swing when things start getting tired. I prefer to walk, but 36 is a lot of holes, i would cart.

I'd take the caddy. Walking 36 is a lot of holes but definitely not impossible. I carried a bag 64 mountainous holes in one day last year and I actually played better as the day went on. After the first or second round you take a lot of pressure off yourself and don't focus as much energy on the practice swings and everything else that doesn't matter. My distance and swing didn't suffer at all from fatigue. If you carry 18 a lot 36 with a caddy on a flat course won't be a problem at all.

I've played 36 holes on numerous occasions and I'm pretty tired by the end of the second round. I would recommend a cart for the second round. If you have a chance to have someone caddy and carry your clubs, then I would probably walk the 36 holes.

also remember that after 36 holes and a couple of adult beverages... I slept pretty good those nights

Ok, so if I'm hearing you'all right, I should caddy the first 18 and then ride the second 18?

Caddy!

A big part of the fatigue from walking comes from carrying the bag. Yeah, it's still a lot of walking, but with lots of breaks on a soft surface, presumably in light, breathable clothing. If you can walk 18 with bag on shoulders, you can certainly handle 36 sans bag.

Stay hydrated, take plenty of trail mix (dried fruit, nuts, etc) and you'll be fine!

if you are in good enough shape to walk all 36 and enjoy them fine take a caddie...if not split the day. to be honest I think i would split the day and request a fore caddie for the 2nd round...now you have a plan.

I'd just walk and use my push cart. 36 isn't that hard to walk. I used to do it all the time in worse shape than I am now.

Caddy then cart (or vise versa). 8 hours is a long time to spend one on one with a stranger.

Maybe you should do whatever your brother-in-law does. I assume he is your host. If not, I guess you do whatever your host for the day does.

    • I think part of it is there hasn't been enough conclusive studies specific to golf regarding block studies. Maybe the full swing, you can't study it because it is too complicated and to some degree it will fall into variable or random.
    • Going one step stiffer in the golf shaft, of the same make and model will have minor impact on the launch conditions. It can matter, it is a way to dial in some launch conditions if you are a few hundred RPM off or the angle isn't there. Same with moving weights around. A clubhead weights 200-220 grams. You are shifting a fraction of that to move the CG slightly. It can matter, again its more about fine tuning. As for grip size, this is more personal preference. Grip size doesn't have any impact on the swing out of personal preference.  You are going to spend hundreds of dollars for fine tuning. Which if you want, go for it. I am not sure what your level of play is, or what your goals in golf are.  In the end, the golf swing matters more than the equipment. If you want to go to that level of detail, go find a good golf club fitter. ChatGPT is going to surface scan reddit, golfwrx, and other popular websites for the answers. Basically, it is all opinionated gibberish at this point.

    • Well the first advice I would give is to look at your swing. If you are swing out to in, it may be difficult to fix your misses with club adjustments. They would only be a bandaid. I use midsize grips because I have long fingers and I feel I have more control with them. I also have tinkered with shaft length and swing weight. But I know when I miss it’s because my swing was off.
