Did the rep forget to switch it from "sell" mode to "reality" mode?

^^^ I put no stock whatsoever in how far a launch monitor says I can hit a golf ball.

Don't know about you guys but i can feel pretty good where the ball came on the clubface.

and what went wrong in the swing if i get a bad shot.

On really bad shots I can and of course on perfectly hit balls on the sweet spot I can feel that. I can't tell on balls consistently just inside or outside of the sweet spot most of the time so if I feel like I am losing a few yards I usually look at my driver face to see where it is hitting.

Just spray the ball before tee-off and check the clubhead face a minute later. A violation?

no...spray the clubface.  I'd say for sure it's a training aid (so what?  if it's a 'practice' round, use it, learn what you can, don't post the score for handicap purposes - or do it at the range).  It cleans off pretty easy too.

at the indoor range, the balls are grimy a bit from all the wear.  If I start with a clean club face, it only takes a few shot to see my impact zone.  I think that's a bit more revealing because it shows the stain after several balls, not just one.  Surprising that the mark isn't very big.  I'll take pics today if I remember and post.  They show up fastest on the wedges - makes sense since it's more of an oblique impact...(i.e., it rubs)

Spray foot powder on the club face prior to the strike.  yes, it's a training aid so the rules apply in that fashion.  But it'll give you the impact location.

(dirty balls are not a training aid, this also works, but it doesn't seem to be in the spirit of it, does it.  Then again, looking at your divot to see your club path seems out of line if that was the case - doubt anyone would call it cheating though.)

I tried playing with dirty balls but they just get too itchy.

Yours in earnest, Jason.

Dirty balls and impact imprint: 7i - started clean - after only about 4 or 5 shots.  If you look at the clubface right after a strike, you can even see the dimples.

(just checking - who looked at this and turned their head sideways just because the clubface is?)

    • Tiger Wood's Driver Clinic Got this on Twitter. Which then I found the video above.  Tiger asking Rory to hit that control cut. Rory talks a bit about how he likes to stand taller, so he doesn't feel like he can shallow it with the body. Tiger puts it in his words, staying on top of the ball. Which I presume for Tiger his feel for a cut. Even the PGA Tour players have their own ways to achieve similar shots and describe it with their own swing thoughts (feels). Good insight in how PGA Tour player's develop swing feels to produce the shot they want. Could be something as simple as a posture change.
    • Awesome, thank you very much for chiming in and for explaining. I will give it a try today. I was chipping in my back yard with my new irons and had a huge smile on my face from just how well they were performing, feeling and sounding compared to the old 70's blades I was playing. I look forward to giving your drill a shot!
    • It’s to get a feel for the sensation of hitting the ball on the center of the club face and for hitting the ball straight.  Golf is, my opinion, about hitting the center of the club face.  A ball struck in the center of the face with a squared to the target club face is, again my opinion, the most important aspect of golf.  It provides a feel like nothing else in golf.  Swinging hard and striking the ball off the toe or heel of the club when you’re new to the game results in bad feeling shots that erode your confidence.  Hitting fifty half-swing shots and nothing else at the range lets you get back in the car and sleep on a satisfying session.  Remember, in order to play well, you must be confident.  In order to be confident, you must play well 😎.  Good luck.
