Is there such a thing as putters which help resist against twisting on putting stroke? Not sure if the taylormade spider range might help??

thanks

not sure if there is a putter that will help this, but i'd say a mallet like the spider or some of the other giant putters out there might. i notice you use a center shaft, maybe try something with a little more offset. also, there are alot of oversize putter grips that take the hands out of the stroke and give a better pendulum motion. i personally like alot of winn's oversize putter grips as they come in various sizes for better feel. take a look at both your stroke and the putter to determine the real flaw. also, try using drills such as the chalk line or putting with a yard(or meter) stick to get the path right.

good luck,

See what's in my bag!

It's not a giant putter, about the same size as a Odyssey 2-ball... but it's about twice as heavy. I love this thing, picked up a second one this winter for $49 as a backup. 3 ft. putts fear me now. Haha.

Boccieri Golf - Heavy Putter/

Seriously though, a heavy putter is not for everyone and it took me a while to get used to it. It makes short putts almost automatic. I play on very fast and very undulating greens and short putts require a firm stroke to take the break out of them. Any twitchiness and you are dead. This putter fixed that problem.

In the end whatever putter you end up with will be all about feel and repeatability. Find that and you are golden.

Twisting when you hit the ball? Hit the sweet spot more.

Twisting open and closed on an arced putting stroke? That's proper.

Define "twisting" please.

Larger, high MOI putters tend to be more stable throughout the stroke.

Some of this depends on the type of stroke you use. If you try to go straight back and straight through, a face balanced putter (such as the Taylormade Spider, Oddyssey-2 ball & rossie) will help prevent twisting in your stroke. If it is an arc putting stroke, a heel/toe balanced putter should help with less twisting.

My definition of "Twisting" pertaining to putting would be the arc type putting stroke. If you do NOT want to have an arc (not recommended IMO) and would rather settle for the straight back, straight through method you need a faced balanced putter.

According to Stan Utley, in his book he says that if you like the arc type stroke, you need a putter that will help you open and close the face correctly. He recommends a toe balanced putter, i.e. Scotty Cameron Newport 2.

Therefore I would assume that if you prefer the straight back, straight through method you will want a faced balanced putter.

How to check whether it is face or toe balanced: Balance the putter on your finger(s)... If the face is pointing towards the sky, you found a putter you should probably consider... If the toe of the putter is pointing more toward the ground, maybe you should stay away from that one.

I hope you are not talking about your hips "Twisting".... I don't think any putter will help stop that.

    • Truer words have never been spoken, as I am seeing tonight 😅. I hope my ignorance did not come across as arrogant… Definitely true, however there was also a pro present, albeit not trained in GEARS specifically as would be necessary. I am certainly learning a lot (as I hoped I would). I am not here to challenge the accuracy or significance of any data, as I did find it interesting how it objectively showed my swing. What I am wondering is if an expert teacher trained in GEARS was shown a swing with and without GEARS, would the pro come to a different conclusion using GEARS versus "traditional methods," genuinely curious.

    • This^  @Huffy, Go check out https://www.youtube.com/@AthleticMotionGolf They do a great job deciphering reality versus perception. One that comes to mind with 2D is perceiving lag using video. Two players can have the exact same lag, but because of the positioning of their arms, one looks to have tremendously more lag than the other.  Video is great for a lot of stuff, you truly can't hide anything from GEARS. Like anything that gives to a TON of data, knowing what to look for and how to decipher it is key.
