Rough final day at Wentworth. The big names and up-and-comers who started the day up front all had awful rounds: Wood and Karlsson shot matching 77s from the lead, and Donald's 17th hole was just painful to watch. The door was wide open for a guy to put up a number early, and Khan answered the call.

Poor way to finish such a high profile tournament.Conditions were so - so but the winner barely manages 6 under? They learned at Augusta a few years back that making a course overly difficult is a good way to go about killing excitement in the very tournament that should be one of the most exciting out there.Since Wentworth is supposed to be the European Tour's flagship event, perhaps they should take heed. The course needed new greens, yes, but you don't have to make them smaller and tougher while you're at it.The fact that there were two players in contention that needed an eagle on the par 5 18th hole, but laid up anyway, says it all.Thought the whole thing was fairly dull and disappointing.Simon Khan only put in one impressive round all week and it was enough to win the tournament.Maybe its just me but that doesn't seem right. But well done to him, he did well today.
A great shot is when you go for it and pull it off. A smart shot is when you don't have the guts to try it. ~ Phil Mickelson.

Yes he did well, just goes to show at a course like that, post decent rounds on the first 2 days and a number on the final round and your in with a chance.

As for the big guns, Poulter did not turn up, Rory had a poor 4 days full stop, Westwood played up and down but a 66 was nice to finish, Casey was avergae, I thought Donald was gonna do it but at least he is heading in the right direction after injury comeback. Paddy did OK and as for Karlsson and Woods, they gotta be down after 77's on the final day.

But it is a tough course, I mean Els finished +3 and he re-designed it.

Well done Simon K

For those who follow the Euro Tour, I would sure like to know who said what to the media that prompted Ernie to say that a few of his longtime friends "knifed him"

Anyone have any quotes?

For those who follow the Euro Tour, I would sure like to know who said what to the media that prompted Ernie to say that a few of his longtime friends "knifed him"

I think he's mostly talking about Lee Westwood, who was quite vocal in the press about his dislike of the new 18th hole, particularly.

"I was a big fan of the [old] finish. People like that excitement of birdies. That's been taken away," he said. "The hole cries out for a green that sits in the opposite direction. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me." "If you're going to spend a lot of money on changes it would be nice to get them right first time round." Here's Ernie's take from today, you can pretty clearly read between the lines. http://www.pgatour.com/2010/r/01/04/els_blog/index.html

I think Casey more than Westwood.

Some quotes from him...

“I know there has been a battle between Richard Caring and Ernie about rough,” Casey said. “Ernie’s vision, whether you agree with it or not, was that the bunkers were the hazards and if you avoid those you can get around this golf course. I know a lot of rough has been grown and I know that Ernie has not liked that. He is trying to get it chopped back as we speak.”

and

Likening the iconic course to a listed building, Casey questioned whether its owner should be allowed to make such dramatic changes. Using Els’s beautiful thatched-roof house that hugs the 16th fairway as an example, he said: “He owns it, but that doesn’t give him the right to paint it pink and put a tin roof on it. If you are an owner of a Grade II listed building, it is much like you are the caretaker for the next generation. If you are the owner of a golf course, it does give you the right to make the changes you want, [but] is that in the best interests of that particular course or golf in general?”

    • You can pre-order an R50 here for pretty rapid shipping (these are back-ordered almost everywhere): https://www.playbetter.com/products/garmin-approach-r50-golf-launch-monitor-simulator?ghref=2301%3A700794. This is an affiliate purchase, and I'm willing to kick back lifetime ad-free Supporter membership here on TST or a 90-minute GEARS session for the cost of a regular member lesson (about 1/3 the cost). Also, I'll record a video myself soon when I get an R50.

    • Day 209 (27 Nov 24) - Easy session with the LW - short pitches replicating greens side up and downs. Finished up with the 7i and hard foam balls - making 1/2 to 3/4 swings with deliberately slowed tempo…from varied lies.
    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
