I am looking to get a new 3W soon and need some suggestions. My current one is in my sig...I hit it a ton off the tee but I dont like it off the ground. What club do you feel is the easiest to hit off the deck with a nice, high trajectory? Thanks.

The trajectory depends more on the shaft than the head. The new 909 titleist FW's launch the ball pretty high from the deck though, though.

I have the 909 F2 3 wood and it launches high from the deck just as DFB said. I can still work it when I'm trying to draw it / fade it / hit it low which is very important in a 3 wood (at least for me).

It's quite forgiving as well. The shaft will make the biggest difference in terms of launch angle so make sure you get one that fits the trajectory you are looking for.

I recently dropped my 3W for a hybrid. The Hybrid finally overtook my 3W yardage and is a little more versatile for me right now.

The 909's launch pretty high with the stock shafts. If you're looking for a great FW wood off the deck, these are a great option.

I have the SQ Dymo 3 wood and hit it fine off the deck, better than of the tee for me.

If anything it should be better off the deck than off the tee, that is what the Quad keel soul is meant to help with.

If it is height you are after then try a hybrid as said.

Ping Rapture 3wood 14* Titanium. First time playing with the club yesterday and its definitely more accurate then my driver in terms of narrow fairways...It was as long as some of my friends driving distance. Very happy with it!

I play a cleveland launcher with a gold fit on...will be exchanging it soon with an R9...it's great off the deck but is lacking in distance/feel.

When I asked this question, may raved about the Mizuno F-60, but it's hard to find used. I never got to try it, but always heard how easy it is to hit of the deck and tee.

I went for the 906F4 on my sig. I found it to be the easiest to hit off the deck of all the ones I tried. It has very similar stats as the new 909F2...It's really a great 3w!!!! My only issue is that is not very forgiving on the rough (thick stuff) die to the shallow face. I also limit the use primarily to short distances off the tee (230-240) when hazards are present, which I cannot clear with the driver, other than thatI use my 3h alot!!!!

I have the Titleist 909F3, which gives me a bit lower launch, which is what I was looking for in the 13* strong loft I got.
I also have a Titleist 909F3 in 18* that is awesome. Also have the 980F, which is a much higher launch that the Titleist 909F3 IMO.

My current 5 wood has a steel shaft with stiff flex. Ball launches low like a 3 wood but has more forgiveness.

Yup, I know the shaft controls the trajectory. Just wanted some suggestions on what clubs to demo so I dont spend so much time trying to find the right one. I had the 909F3 for about a day...didnt like it but it was more the low launch shaft.

What shaft did you have in it, the VooDoo? I found that both of the stock shafts hit the ball pretty high. The 909F2 will launch a bit higher than the F3 if that's what you are looking for. Otherwise the Callaway FT and FT Tour is a pretty high launching 3 wood, even with low launch shafts.

Heck, I dont even remember which shaft was in it. Likely stock...I may give it anther try with a different shaft.

I just got a SQ 2 with a blueboard and I like how that feels. Ive read a lot about people enjoying the Ping 3 wood and the Tour Exotic.

I had a similar problem hitting my 3wood of the deck and recently went to a 17* 4 wood by callaway the ft tour. I can control the trajectory with this club more and it gaps well on the courses I play. I then drop into a 3 hybrid at 20* and then a four iron. My old combo was 3 wood 5 wood 4 hybrid and then five iron, I haven't looked back since making the switch, the 4 wood off the tee is still plenty long on the tighter driving holes. I found the callaway fairway woods to be easier to control than the taylor mades I demoed the same day.

    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
    • I think part of it is there hasn't been enough conclusive studies specific to golf regarding block studies. Maybe the full swing, you can't study it because it is too complicated and to some degree it will fall into variable or random.
